Assuming no security concerns I generally leave it down.

I have the tan interior, so it's not too unbearable to leave it in the sun, I have had convertibles with black interiors in the past and those became unbearably hot after an hour in the sun.

I've been driving convertibles since 1981 and I haven't had a bird dropping or tree sap problem yet.
Of course I started with a '75 TR6, which I still own. It takes about 5 minutes of effort to get the top up and down so that one usually stays down all summer long unless I get caught in the rain.

Nice. My first convertible was a ‘75 Midget that I had for 7 years until our first came along. Then I had an ‘80 TR8 for 5 years. The Mustang is a result of searching for a LBC again, until I gave up and decided to combine toy and daily driver so I could enjoy every day.

Unless it's my driveway for 2 minutes while I grab something, top goes up.

1. Protect the leather
2. Keep the leather from burning me upon return
3. I've seen someone throw a super mega big gulp into someone's convertible
4. I've seen a drunk guy pee into someone's convertible
5. I've seen a flock of geese shit into someone's convertible

Me, too, except for number 4. I can't even imagine such a thing (and don't want to).

As far as using the top as a theft deterrent, the guy that stole my '70 Cougar just cut the top open and climbed in.
