Except those 170 estimated miles are more like 100 in real life. And if you find all charging stations already in use (which you certainly will if everybody has an EV) and four other cars waiting in line, those 15 minutes will easily turn into hours. Besides, 170 miles isn't three hours on a motorway. It's more like two.
What's in use already may work for a handful of hipsters and eco-loonies, but it's far from enough if you want to put everybody in EVs.

Anyway, now that we're 37 pages into the topic, do we know the answer yet? Are gas prices dropping soon?

Two hours to do 170 miles on the motorway - not in the UK Average 85mph! On French motorways with a 130kmh limit (81mph) it is reasonable to expect 70mph average.

What you seem to be missing is that the pattern I was suggesting is already happening here, and even more so in countries further on with EV progress. My brother in law has an EV and that is exactly what he does and it works well for him even on long journeys. Those 170 miles are real miles done by him with a 15 to 20 minute charge to recover most of it. Sorry if you don't like it, but that is the reality. He is neither a hippy nor an eco-loony either Also charging stations are popping up everywhere now, replacing all the closing petrol stations!

Interesting that LPG is being dropped in the UK now - it never was a huge seller, but will be gone for good by the end of the year.

Fuel prices are dropping a bit here (as oil price has fallen a bit)

Actually we are down $0.22 since I last filled up about a week and a half ago. Hopefully it’s a tread, but I doubt it. Best guess right now is after Labor Day.

Yes petrol down to £1.79/l from nearly £2.00/l 3 weeks ago here

France a little cheaper at €1.85/l but some stations on the motorway at €2.40/l - ouch

i can go 600 miles on a tank of gas…..much better than 170 miles then having to stop for 20 minutes. Time is more important to me than some so called green energy BS. Depending on the distance, I’ll be at my destination hours before an EV arrives. To me that’s worth it!

I am involved in a car museum here in the UK and the first 'car', the Benz Motorwagen was derided as useless and pointless in 1885. It took a while, but the concept caught on pretty well. One of the concerns other than reliability was availability of Ligroin (the fuel it used). Nothing really changes ....

That’s in the most optimal conditions which it want be in all the time. Plus don’t believe everything you read….What about being in snow and very cold conditions…..that will be a different story. Then when the roads closes and you run out of power YOU ARE STUCK. How you gonna recharge now. Wait your not, you will have to be towed. A good Ole gas burner just needs a can gas and it’s off to the filling station.

Indeed. Of course it is probably already here. In the same way you can 'hypermile' your ICE car you can do the same in an EV. There are people who have managed over 9 miles per kWh in a Renault Zoe (more than double the WLTP range) which is like getting 40mpg (imperial) in a Mustang. By the same token those that only get 15mpg in their Mustang are probably going to struggle in an EV for the same reason.

As I have said before if you drive an EV like an ICE you will create your own problems, drive an EV as an EV should be and it works just fine for 99% of journeys.

Fuel prices here have accelerated the move to EV's despite subsidies being removed, not surprising really.

I posted this link regarded range. You can bring up virtually every other possible detriment to EV use but that’s pointless. There will always be problems and I believe most of them are being addressed. Remember we are talking years down the road, not tomorrow.

Lithium is not the answer. With better battery technology we can solve the energy problems of the world. 10x the capacity at 50% the cost and EVs would surpass ICE very quickly.

But at this point EVs are more expensive to own with a small base that can make them viable.

The economics always always dictate the success of a technology. EVs are going the wrong way at this point.

Actually it isn't the EV that is going the wrong way. EV's are the future, how they are powered will evolve. Battery technologies will change with time as will the electricity source.

No different to ICE cars in the early days, nobody uses Ligroin now!

As for now and foreseeable future no one is forcing anyone to do anything. That’s just anti government sentiment. I know many people felt the same way about unleaded gas. But at some point, like it or not, change will happen.
