Hey Folks -
I have a four year old son that's interested in learning to play Minecraft, but it's literally been eight or nine years since last I bought a console (a PS3 I got for free with my first Samsung LCD TV purchase, used as a BluRay player, up until now). I grew up playing Nintendo, Sega Genesis, PS, and PS2, but fell off while I was in college (though I did have an OG Xbox for Halo).

Anyway, I'm planning on buying an NES Classic when they become more widely available, but I want to get my boy a console with Minecraft for Christmas. I looked at the Wii U, but the damn controller looks like it's more complicated than programming in Fortran. For me, I want to be able to beat my wife's ass in various old school Nintendo games, as well as play things like Mario Kart.

I guess my questions are: is a Wii U worthwhile for a four-year-old, is there a less complicated controller for the Wii U, and what pitfalls or pluses are there to the Wii U? Any idea where to get the best deal on one? Seems like the supply is getting rather low, since it's a four-year-old system, itself...

TIA!

Microsoft bought the company that created Minecraft, so I'm not sure how much support for non Microsoft platforms they will fully support going forward.

Also, the WII-U is essentially a dead on arrival system, with a less than stellar selection of games in its current library and little to expect in the future with Nintendo already announcing the WII replacement.

Between the PS4 and XBox their libraries outside of exclusives is going to be the same, so I'd recommend eithe considering the exclusive games or consider the console that most people you know has.

Online play is huge and multiplayer is better when people you know play with you.
