C7 B8,

I know of the re-11's and in the S2000 I ran the Derizza star spec(several sets) and thought they might be on even par with the re-11 tires? I can't compare the super sports to the re-11's. Do you feel/have knowledge of the re-11's being better in grip than the super sports? I can whole heartedly confirm the super sports wear VERY well!
RE11's are two generations old. They were replaced by the RE71's and the RE71R's are now the front runner tire from Bridgestone. But that doesn't mean the RE11's are junk per say either. However, there is about a 1 - 2 second gap in between RE11's and RE71R's depending on the autocross course and several seconds depending on the road course.

Regardless I'm going to have a set of separate tires for racing vs the road. The SS's will be for the road. If the RE71R's come out in the right size, I'll be running them.

Also really like the GA1R, and hope to get some after saving for a while. If you want them to seem inexpensive, just go price the GT350R wheel from Ford ($4000 each), and pretend you are ready to buy. Then price the GA1R and think of all the savings!

As far as weight goes, I have to believe the lighter weight will improve things, but a lighter weight with a "shock tune" would improve things even more (like was done on the "R" model). Then there are the straight line acceleration and the reduced gyroscopic affects that help improve steering feel. Both of those should make subtle improvements in performance and feel even without a tune.

Setting them aside for another day. Your thoughts?

Best bet if you are at all worried about future resale. Keeping all of the original parts is likely worth more than whatever you will get selling the take-off parts 2nd hand

I think RE11, DII Stars and AD08s, Rivals are pretty much on par. All in the category of extreme performance tires. All last generation technology. SS is a great tire but more of an everyday tire.

Rival S and RE71R offer the latest technology and very welcomed upgrades from last gen. Both are getting closer to being "streetable track tires" like the Cup2s. Neither is out in our sizes, yet.

I have only run Rivals and RE11s...I'd give the slight edge to Rivals 30 series vs RE11's 35 series. RE11s are far better on wet and appears to last longer. I plan to run RE11s on my GT350 until RE71Rs come out, supposedly mid-16. I would love to run Cup2s but can't rationalize $2300/set and have them only last 5-6 track days. I'd expect the RE11s go 10-12 if not more track days at $1550/set.

Rivals definitely seem to do well with bigger cars. Not a clue why but they just...do. By no means be discouraged from getting RE11's though. They were and still are a very respectable tire, especially in the wear department while still maintaining performance.

Edit/additional note: RE71's were a great tire but wore our hilariously fast. 71R's seemed to be a little better but unfortunately not by much more. This is on smaller cars though so we'll see how the bigger sizes do.

I agree on all the street type tires in levels of grip in interacting with all my autox friends. I read somewhere that the RE-71R's might not be available to just prior to run offs and if inclined to get a set, one will need to get an order in early. Members that switched to the Re-71r's claim they are near Hoosier levels of grip(their times reflected this), and being able to stick your finger nail into the rubber supports that assessment, so to speak. I too will likely go the Re-11 route until next year, or availability. What I was very impressed with is the level of grip on a warm day on the SS tires, and how they wore after running two divisions and 40 minutes of aggressive track time and logging about 8k of miles. Impressive for sure. Fronts when traded were near 50% tread live, rears a bit less.

thanks for your input, appreciated

Boardkat,

Thanks and appreciate your humor. Yes, pricey, but I'm not getting any younger and... :-)

12" sq, serious rubber for sure. What class does that have you in? I know my platform is different but if your ok with sharing some alignment/challenges with your platform I'd appreciate it. PM if inclined.

chilly 5 degrees here this morning, two months or so to go until some spring flowers, ok maybe a bit warmer weather:-)
i run in ESP nationally and CAM-C locally - so my car, nowhere near stock any more, is by no means an "apples to apples" comparison with yours. that said, i'm running close to -4 camber/0 toe up front, more than -2 and some toe-in out back, with spring rates approaching 6x front and 3x rear more than OEM rates. still daily drive it too - pimpy monotube shocks with good valving do wonders :)

check out my build in the ESP thread in the autox forum for a bunch more info - i freely post my setup and trials/tribulations. and there have been many!

The RE71R is pretty much at Hoosier level, I can attest to this, their so soft it tripped me out the first set I got for someone.
