Hi Folks,

Started my day like yesterday with getting some gas for the 2020 EB work car. Filled it up, and it wasn't but maybe just below half a tank. I get back into the car and start it up, and the needle is right back where it was when I pulled up to the pump?!

I track my MPG in this car. The miles to empty didn't change either from where it was. I am assuming that the sender unit has gone bad. The gauge reads off by half a tank.

I searched the forum to see if others have had this happen and in 4 pages of searching, didn't find anything. I assume this is uncommon.
I was contemplating disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, but very doubtful that would help anything. Even though I have an agreement with the boss ( who actually owns this car ) to maintain the car correctly while in my possession, I'm not doing this one. I just did front brakes and rear wheel bearings a few days ago & saved the boss over $1K in labor. The car will be going to a shop for this one I suspect.

Well, the fuel pump is arguably an easier repair than the bearing or brakes. Biggest worry is not getting gas all over the interior.
Try disconnecting the battery, it won't hurt to try that.
You might also try removing the rear seat base and tapping the top of the pump to see if the sender float is just stuck. It's the large circle behind the drivers seat. If the pump needs replaced I think the part is in the $300 range.

The float must have stuck.

I filled the car up again today, and now its working again correctly. Weird.

It happens. Maybe a little fuel system cleaner in the gas tank every 6 months or so might help prevent that.
