I had a lady back into my front end the other day. As a result, insurance is covering the repair. My question is; Should I have it repainted by the shop or pick up a used one off of ebay. There is a 200-300 dollar difference.

I had a lot of rock chips to begin with and am thinking the shop may actually do a better job of painting than the factory did. Thoughts?

is the bumper the only issue? Did the shop pull the bumper and check behind it ?

There was, at one point, a national shortage of S550 front fascias...car repairs were being delayed over it. Not sure if that one has been resolved yet or not. One source seemed to be Roush, or Saleen, (can't remember which) who replaces the front fascia with a custom part of their own design, and sells the new pulls on ebay or their own website

It is only the bumper paint. Just a slight rub of the two cars. I was sitting on a bench watching it happen. (sigh) I have found a couple of new take offs for reasonable prices. I was just thinking about how easily the stock paint chips. Would the paint shop put a thicker coat of paint than the factory?

I have just over 19k miles on mine now, and while I spend a ludicrous amount of time detailing the paint, I still see rock chips. I think it depends on what shop you take your car to. I plan to keep my bumper as is for awhile but once it gets to a point of being so chipped up I cant bare to look at it, ill swap to something more aggressive looking.

If it's a high quality shop the repaint will look as good or better then the OE paint.
For that to happen however, they do need to pull the fascia, remove the trim/grill etc., sand & repaint (color + clear).

If they just tape it up or try to 'blend' in the scuffed part it will look like crap !
