First thing that came to my mind is that you slammed/pushed the trunk too hard because it didn't want to close. There's been quite a few complaints about that.

I guess that spoiler that the PP deleted would have come in handy

That really looks like a baseball or golf ball hit it. Maybe a neighbor's kid hit a home run?

Two other possibilities...the jealous pimpled-faced neighbor kid...or fallout from the Pierces Meteor Shower! Glad that the paint wasn't compromised. Should pop out.

Could be from a parking garage gate or something similar.

Also could be from someone putting something on your trunk lid that was heavy and they didn't put it down lightly.

Also, random ball (softball, golf ball) definitely is possible.

I highly doubt this, just because it would really require quite a bit of heat to soften the metal to dent it with your hand, plus you would notice it most likely when it happened.

I also don't think it was an acorn, they just don't have enough mass to do that. I'm going with a kid accidentally hit it with a baseball, or something similar.

Bmatt ,got the same thing. A few weeks ago come home from a weekend day of shopping and noticed the ding on top the trunk lid. I do recall loading some items in trunk a few times and the paint was so freaking hot I tried to close it as quickly as possible but I guess there's a weak spot in that area of trunk lid. I see a few more members with same problem I'm making a complaint to :ford:

Hand doesn't have to be on it...slam yours hard enough and it will show you the weak spot;)

Hmm yea I remember people saying they had dented it closing it possibly. I'm pretty sure I close using the plastic pushing down on it, but maybe I used the lid a couple of times? My neighbor hits golf balls in his yard sometimes, I think I've found one in mine a while back. That'd be really messed up though, he is the sales manager at the dealer I bought it from... Haha.

My buddies have a shop they do a lot of repairs, but generally they paint. Said. They could fix it for me, assuming they finally upped to PDR, been a few years since I talked to them about it. They do a good job generally so I'll probably have them look at it. He did mention something about "pantless" dent repair though, so maybe I should be worried (joking of course).

Hey, isn't there Ford reps lurking the board here? Wonder how many people have this same ding, I wonder if it could just be a design flaw/weak spot int he metal that could deform with heat over time? Highly unlikely, but the metal didnt feel thin enough to ding by closing trunk either, unless you close it with your fist? :frusty:

That does look likes its the same ding though, so that is very peculiar.

If it was an impact you would have a slight paint blem there, but hey I could just be plain wrong:p
