Isn't the 2.3 liter a modified carry over motor of the mazdaspeed3 engine? Won't most the internals work from one of those? Ex. Forged aftermarket parts. Slap on a big turbo and get 4-500 for a daily driver 4cyl engine and still get good mpg, its a win if you ask me.

It "appears" those number will be possible on stock internals (low 400's) anyways. This is my basic plan though.

So you got scared and now are saying it can't be done. You're all over the board and it's impossible to follow. Your entire argument contradicts itself and shouldn't even be in this thread.
slow down cowboy, we know you are just trying to pick a fight.

I'm out...have fun

I love how people on here like to talk like the coyote is some bullet proof engine. It's not. When it was first introduced owners were blowing them up pretty regularly since the tuning wasn't mature and cylinder 8 kept having problems. This is why some tuners offered to replace engines if their tune caused engine failure. It was also found that some coyotes running ford's stock tune were having the same problem.

How many tuned ecoboosts owned by customers have blown up so far? If anything the track record for the ecoboost is far better than the coyote.

I love the fact that there is both! The coyote and or Eco. I'm contemplating just going big turbo and keeping the car around 400 horse. Even after my car has been tuned, it feels perfectly fast for a daily street car. But a little more would be just that much more fun. I just don't want to blow it up

If you're only shooting for 400, go for a 5558. Cheaper and faster spool than the 5858 or 5862.

Can also wait to see how the ported head w/ Ford Racing cams benchmark. May be able reach 400hp with the stock turbo... May stress the little guy so best bet is the GTX3071R, EFR7163, or PTE 5558

I really want to try this setup when I get my car. It would, theoretically speaking, be perfect for what I am looking for.

Sorry for being s noob, but what exactly is a 5558 are we referring to some type of size of turbo or a model? And where can I find more information about this, yea, by goal is 400 horse and match torque as close as possible, that's really all that I want. My car is so much fun to drive/useless in the ran and most likely snow anyways so a little more power can only make it more fun, I don't really want to go over top because I'd rather not stress the internals to the point of breaking. Also, if I can get away with my goals without needing to swap a short block, that would save me a ton of money

Better to ask a question than remain ignorant my friend. 55 is the size of the inducer (small part of the fins where air comes in) on the compressor side of the turbo. 58 is the size of the exducer on the turbine side (again small part on the fins where exhaust leaves the turbo). Stock turbo with a good tune, the turbo runs out of breath before you reach the limits of the stock block. Adam will correct me if I'm wrong but the General consensus is that around 400~450 whp, with good torque management at low engine speeds is the safe limit of the stock block.
