Nope. It isn't just Ford. As long as the tariffs are in place, the outlook isn't good for any of us in the auto industry.

Let's not get too blatantly political. That usually leads to a big argument.

But yeah, our steel prices keep climbing, and our imports/exports are currently a mess. So much for that tax break giving us a boost...

The misguided belief that they can stop production of cars (not globally, just North America) and maintain relevance as a viable choice in a competitive auto landscape through a few halo vehicles and highly successful trucks to stop losses in other market segments and cherry pick high margin and successful products - deserves scorn from shareholders. Why not just farm out auto development to India and skim 10% off the top if we're talking about shareholder value?

Buy when there are signs that the leadership will be replaced. It's unfortunate that they are weathering other market challenges (steel costs, tariffs) at the same time as they have a particularly weak business plan.

Exactly. Ford is going to lose overall market share by abandoning cars and they're deluding themselves to think that the same economics won't catch up with them in the CUV segment.

From a Detroit News version of this:
He offers a story: a while back, Hackett ordered a Mustang GT convertible for his wife, Kathy. Paid for it, and waited ... going on 90 days. Then he asked one of his car guys: how long does it take to get an order filled?

"81 days," the guy responded.

"What was it 15 years ago?" the boss asks. "He goes, '81 days.'

"I said, 'there's no clock speed in the world in business that's the same it was 15 years ago. I don't know what it should be, but can we get it faster?"

The target is 40 days to enable dealers to fill special orders more quickly and to restock popular trim levels on hot models.
