Ford dealer offering service plan for new GT, around £30pm.

Anyone here signed up for something similar?

Thanks

I paid £590 for 3 years servicing and £540 for 5 years warranty but that was before the refresh where prices have increased. Do i think it's worth it, yes. £30 per month sounds expensive, not sure why you're paying monthly.

I think people get taken in by the low monthly costs without looking at the bigger picture, that's what PCP relies on!

Well, on a new car I would always pay for a main dealer to do the servicing for various reasons.

The question is whether I should pay £30 a month to the dealer over 3 years, or to do as I normally do and simply put away enough money every month to cover the expected servicing costs for the duration of the contract.

How much does this add up to on a GT?

Cheers

I agree that it's good to get main dealer servicing but £30 per month is a ridiculously high, see my post above

Thank you. Can you say what the service intervals are for a GT? Everywhere I google I get a different answer.

Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s what the dealer said. If you had your servicing over 3 years covered with under £600, I’d be a fool to hand over 30 a month (1080 over 3 years).

why are you all hung up on main dealer servicing being "important" main dealers are no better than an independent garage and if anything they're usually worse as they work on churn with staff and are more focused on sales targets etc rather than quality of customer service, support and knowledge. Independents especially if you have a specialist in your area will be cheaper, more knowledgeable and you'll maintain your warranty. Its not like there's even a "ford certified mechanic" like there used to be for old rovers. They used to do special dedicated training courses and certification programs where you went to longbridge and they went through the ins and outs. The people at the dealerships these days aren't even mechanics they're just fitters they can take a part off and plug on a new part they have no clue how an engine actually works or how to manually check timing outside of follow step by steps.

Fair question. Where I have bought cars outright, they have always been secondhand. In those circumstances I have always had the work done by my friend, who is an excellent mechanic and owns an Indy garage.

I have only “bought” two new cars: the Cayman I currently have, and the Mustang I am in the process of buying. In both cases, it’s via PCP.

Main dealer servicing is a necessary part of this. No doubt someone could point to a weblink which suggests otherwise, but I’ve done my research :like:

I have no idea if main dealer servicing is part of the PCP contract though it would surprise me as the Euro block exemption malarkey was designed to stop such things. I also have the £590 three year service plan (£690 now I believe). I think the monthly plans are operated by the dealer rather than Ford so they can charge what they like...
The AA states that manufacturers can be rather unhelpful on financially assisting with problems after expiration of the warranty should you not use their dealer servicing but that's all I can see.

Thanks Steve. Did you buy the service plan through Ford or the dealer?

It's the Ford Protect service plan you want. Only available on new cars and can be bought anytime before the 1st service. Can be 2 or3 yrs I think. 3yrs was about 700 quid when I got mine. Essentially it just covers 3 services so for me it was 18 months but you do get breakdown cover as well included

Certainly cheaper than buying main dealer services individually, and don't let the dealer sell you their own version which is invariably more expensive, buy it from Ford direct
