My Mustang has been sitting, waiting for a driveshaft for three weeks now. Apparently Ford is not supporting their own parts demand these days?

The dealership service department damaged the flange when reinstalling the shaft after the gear swap. I drove it like that for a while waiting for the part but the occasional vibration was unnerving so they gave me a loaner (Ford Escape) while I wait.

The thought occurred to me that perhaps I could offer to just pay the difference for a Ford Performance shaft and get on with my life.

I’m having no problem finding Ford Performance S197 driveshafts but so far, it looks like there’s nothing for S550s.

Is that correct? If they do make one, does anyone have a part number?

I'll take that as a "no"
I'm pretty sure that is the case. I can't find one.

Damn it. I miss my car.

Maybe suggest they ask Ford to approve an aftermarket one, if you have been down for a while. They probably won't but you never know until you ask. Heck, I bet if you really look and really want to get back on the road, one can be found in a parts/wrecking type of place..... I'm just suggesting as a way to get your car back on the road. There are also guys on here that have swapped out their stock for aftermarket and may have the stock for sale. Just trying to think out of the box here. Either way, if you were to find one used, I would still have them agree to put in the new OEM part when it arrives...has to be cheaper than the loaner in the long run.

Good thoughts here...the idea of asking them to approve a non- Ford Performance aftermarket shaft seems like a long shot but it certainly couldn’t hurt to ask. That would be fantastic if they went for it. I suspect that they may be more open to this the longer the shortage goes on.

As for finding a used one to get the car up and running...If they werent providing a loaner car, I’d seriously consider that path.

The suggestions are all good ones and you’ve given me somethings to think about. Thank you.

Right now they think the shaft will be in stock on 12/4. That’s the fourth slip of the date since the original projection. I miss my car!
