Anyone that says the Flowmaster American Thunder axle back doesn't drone is either deaf or doesn't know what drone is.

Ok....so Flowmaster is out of the picture..... :D

I have been looking at what you guys are suggesting thru posts and pm's. Thanx for all the suggestions:D

One other and lesser talked about axle back system that was suggested to me was Magna Flow.

https://www.cjponyparts.com/magnaflow-axle-back-exhaust-kit-3-competition-series-stainless-steel-with-4-1-2-tips-gt-2015-2017/p/CBG84/

CJ is listing it as $700+....... so it isn't on the cheap side, but wondering how many have this installed???? Bill on the CJ video says 'no drone'.... just wondering??? Sounds deep, no cackle or rasp..... The sound is very deep (looking/listening to clips). I would assume that low tone would transfer to the cabin. But drone and tone aren't the same thing. Corsa, Borla and Roush all sound great (again listening to clips), but not as deep...At least I don't think..

It has a lot of tone in the cabin, particularly for how mild it is on the exterior. Very boomy, borderline drone.

I've been through 5 different exhaust setups and the only one that has been drone free and still has good volume is the Corsa.

Tone vs drone. If the frequency is low... 130-140 hz and fairly loud, I can see tone being assumed to be drone,:frusty:

Yep. Corsa sport catback or touring axleback + H pipe. Great tone, absolutely no drone or boomy presence. There's a reason they're so popular.

Stock mufflers don't produce that great of a tone when you push more volume through them. They're pretty tinny sounding. I did that first and wouldn't recommend. It's certainly better than extra quiet stock, but if you're going to do it, do it well.
Was it with a X-pipe or H-Pipe?

X. I've heard a friend's with an H, and it was notably better, but still not that great (still tinny because of the chambers in the stock muffers).

If you're looking for loud, then yes, the H-Pipe/Stock Muffler combo will be disappointing. Unless you're at WOT, the tone will have the airy sound like with the stock setup.

Personally, I've found the muffler delete/stock resonator combination to be a perfect balance between having a tone that's noticeable without being loud. Has a very deep and full sound.

I can see that being quite decent. I think it'd sound better with the Borla resonator or with the CJPP/Magnaflow resonated X-pipe, though. The stock resonator makes for a choked-off/farty sound at higher rpm (>4500 @ WOT) because it isn't a true crossover. The Borla resonator is actually an H-crossover with resonated piping. The MF resonated X gives you the high RPM theater that a conventional X does, but without the rasp. Either would give a better tone than the stock resonator and only a very small increase in volume. I used the MF resonated X with my current axleback for a while and really enjoyed the sound.

You should listen to a clip or two on YouTube. There was zero choked/farty sounds in the tone. When I heard it in person, I was completely shocked it was just tips welded into where the stock mufflers were located. Only problem is it was only a 5 out of 10 on the loudness scale. I personally like 8-9, but the tone was great throughout the rpm range. Guy mentioned he has zero drone from the setup as well.

I can definitely hear what I was referring to here:

and here:

and here:

If you compare to one with a H or X-pipe resonator delete, it's obviously different volume, but the tone at high RPM keeps its depth/throatiness. I was able to easily notice this same change with my Corsa axleback + Stock resonator vs. axleback + MF resonated X.

Went with mbrp streets (stainless steel).
- They sound amazing down low
- Above 4k - literally scream, raspy. maybe the coyote is just raspy in general.. not sure

No drone on the highway. you can hear it a faint hum but i wouldn't consider that drone.
Overall, very satisfied.

I think some people are confusing drone with time, as stated above. I had Flowmaster AT in my 2015, no drone, then went resonator delete with straight pipes, the drone was insane, my 6yr old Autistic son wanted nothing to do with my car after that. Put in an H-pipe, no drone at all, at any speed.

In my 2017, installed Roush AB, sounds great, added the H-pipe, it was so obnoxious it was almost embarrassing, put the resonator back in.

I do miss my Flowmasters w/H-pipe combo though.

Consider BBK Varitune axle back. It's adjustable and is chambered like the flowmasters but there is little to no drone especially when the valve is closed.

The tips are ugly but you can get generic ones if you don't like these. I coated mine satin black and they look much better.

I run the full catback and though it's louder, the drone is only slight, and I'm auto. :D
