That's probably something to ask him, perhaps it's by design (I'd hope not). I'm idling between 9.6-9.9, and when I go full ham I sit low 9's, that being a point higher makes me wonder why they'd want you running so lean... similar to a 16:1 in a regular gas car.
Thanks - I’ll bring up that point to them!

Not to highjack the thread, but has anyone found out a way to change the scaling on the factory air/fuel gauge so it can read below 10? Not a huge deal just one of those curiosities that nag at me.

Thanks

Do you mean in the instrument cluster? Mine goes below 10. Annoyingly, the air to fuel ratio PID on my nguage doesn't seem to sync up with the view in my instrument cluster. Stuck at 14.6-14.8 even though I'm running E85 and the instrument cluster is showing around 10.4-10.7 at idle.

This is why it’s always best to just watch/log/view lambda.

I run a “dedicated” E85 tune. I can run down to E65 without an issue. STFT’s keep targeted lambda. Your AFR doesn’t change, just the way it’s displayed.

Generally (blanket statement!) around 14.7 (:1) is what it aims for on Gasoline
To be precise, 14.08:1 is the standard stoic for gasoline.

Good point. I mean if wanted, perhaps we could give them the formula to calculate the others like methanol is 9, toluene is 13.5... I think Hydrogen is like 34(!) :D

I use to run the dedicated E85R tune for a really long time. Now I run the flex tune exclusively. Being able to run 93 in a pinch is great. And you don't need to worry about crap E85. Though E85R tune does come on strong earlier. I wouldn't even try until you have stable fuel sources.

I usually run 3 tanks of E85 before I switch to E85R. If you switch back to flex and have 93 in the tank, expect issues. Mine stalled twice trying to correct. Only reason I switched is because I was too far from an E85 station.

Yes, I‘m speaking specifically about the digital gauge in the gauge cluster info center. It will read accurately if I’m looking at the digital numbers, but if I switch to the gauge, the lowest reading is 10 on the gauge scaling.

Definitely looking for the power to come on earlier with the dedicated E85 tune. I have noticed with the flex that it's a bit lacking down low. I plan to switch soon and hope to be happy with it.

Ahh ok, definitely understand now.

Just be careful. There is a reason it comes on sooner with the dedicated E85 tune. Crappy E85 may cause issues. I would show logs to your tuner first to see what they say

The tune file allows this. My Ethanol calibrations changes the display to Ethanol AFR scale.
