I would agree with your assessment if Ford was bringing out a matte finish or flat black wheel. but after having the 2012 Boss302 with gloss black wheels I can tell you it DOES NOT hide any dirt or brake dust.I believe I have the answer for the main reason why they are forcing black wheels on us. In the past customers have complained about brake dust, particularly from the bigger brakes. Having black wheels seems to "camouflage" the dust and makes them less prone to making the wheel look dirty.
This is the only logical reason I could think of. Other than that I really agree with you, the gun metal version is sooo much better.
