I am having a dyno test done tomorrow morning and not sure what to expect.

I am wanting to see if I'm in the ballpark for what a stock engine should be. basically if the engine is healthy. I suspect there is something off cause it feels down on power.

He mentioned welding in a bung for air fuel ratio. Is that normal? I thought they just used a sniffer. Do they data log The run to check timing, knock or just throw it on and floor it. I don't want to damage the engine. looking for some feedback to decide if the shop knows what its doing.

You shouldn’t need to weld anything to measure AFR, that data is all available digitally through the OBD port.

I wouldn’t let anyone dyno my car if they planned on irreversibly changing it like that.

i assume he's talkin about being able to add in a wideband sensor. it's a useful tool but not necessary unless you're going for the last 10th or a percent of performance. seems overkill, he should be able to dyno without welding shit in.

Just spoke with him and he said it is for a more accurate reading and as you said for a wideband in the car later. He said he does not have a sniffer. He did say he will log for knock, timing through obd2 since im a newer car.

I agree he should be able to read air/fuel through obd2 since we have a readout in our cluster

Your car has factory wb sensors.

What am I missing here?

So if i have a vaccum leak, unmetered air somewhere im guessing that would not register on the factory wb. Would a bung upstream detect that.

Im just throwing shit out there.

You already have wideband O2 sensors. Welding in a bung to add another is useless. I doubt this shop works on late model mustangs. If they did, they would already know this.

I dont think they do. Mostly hotrods. If it looks sketchy I'll bounce. Got good reviews. And nothing around me really.

i'd be skeptical of this guy. its a stock car... throw it on the dyno and just run it.
who gives a shit what the AFR is if you aren't tuning it?

I just want to know if the engine is running right and its rather healthy for FI. If im in the ballpark all is good. It does have a Corsa sport. Thats it though.

this is the right answer, there are already wideband sensors in the car. It makes me nervous that your dyno guy doesn’t know that.

either way you’re just after power numbers so as long as he doesn’t screw up your car it should be fine

well its a good thing ya came here first cause a dyno won't really tell you that.

what you want is a compression test and oil analysis.

dynos are fun, they just won't give you anything more than a baseline.

If your concerned about engine health do a compression and leak down test. Dynos are good for tracking gains from mods but isn't going to tell you if your cars ok or not.

Too true. I wish I would have done a Compression test on mine prior to my turbo install. #8 cylinder ended up with a broken ring land.
