The tire has a rim saver ridge on it to save it from curb strikes. You ran up on that curb pretty hard to cause that tear... I had the same thing on my bridgestone RE750s on my Audi... tire should be ok...as long as it isn't too deep... Mine was there since 2006 and not a problem... Even going 100mph...lol

I hate drive through car washes... good ol fashioned hand wash here for me except for winters where I will need the under body wash.... thing is, mustang won't be out in that though the 4x4 will :-)

To make ya feel better... It could be worse...... Seriously, that sucks. I'd definately get the blood pressure up if the wife came home with a wheel like that.

Sorry but people are crazy to drive their car through a car wash. It leaves nothing but swirl marks it will damage your vehicle. as you can see here! Sorry man that sucks!!! I'd get new tire and rim

Might be the first 2015 Mustang but certainly not the first to curb a wheel.

That really sucks man! The first ding is always the worst. You didn't just curb it though...you CURB the heck out of that thing, OUCH! You toe nailed it pretty good. Sorry brother...not rubbing it it. I can just feel it all the way over here.

As the others have said...you need to replace that tire though. The wheel can be re-finished for probably around $150.00 to $175.00. Cheaper than a OEM replacement. I guess thats the one plus of the gloss black PP wheels.

I have to say though...I am surprized that you were taking it through a drive thru car wash?

"Those metal things they put tires on do a great job of keeping me from riding up curbs when I park. When I hear them grind I know I'm close enough to curb."

Give the guy a break. At least he's trying to keep the car clean!

Touchless car washes don't leave swirls which I'm sure that is what he
went through. The only negative with touchless is the soap/chemicals and the sprayers nozzles are most often harsh like sand blasters.

And a note to those bashing about swirl marks. You can get swirl marks washing the car yourself. Lots of steps to minimize but very easy to do if not meticulous when washing. Out of all the learning experiences I've found to not make the clear coat scratches noticeable is to wash the car in the same direction and not wash in circles. That way if you do manage to get a clear coat scratch, the lines are not crossing so they wont POP out as much to the eye.

Wash one direction looks like this --> ====
Or wash in circles and look like this --> #@#@#

And, if you live somewhere (like I do) that has drought restrictions you can't wash you car yourself anyway. You have to pick some place to wash your car ... The trick is to pick someplace you trust with the least downside.

Ive owned a black car before. I always washed in the self spray bays, had a bucket and micro fiber for tough bugs and stuff then another to dry off with. No swirls or clear coat scratches. Car was beautiful for the 3 years I had it.

I also learned early not to use drive throughs
Wife was in a hurry and pissed I was going to wash my car so I compromised.... and scratched my rim. Last time I used one, and last time she ever threw a fit over the longer car wash.

I've always washed my car in drive-through carwashes with the octopus arms slapping it. Never had a problem and it always looks great afterwards. Wash it three or four times a year.

I've seen the amount of work (and money) it takes to repair paint after those things so not even once for me.

I've never had it happen to any of my cars. I work at power plants so I use touch-less on my company car weekly and once in awhile my mustang and have never had any paint blasted off.
