I'm looking into it, I have ordered some carpro velvet pads and I have a Griots boss 15 DA and a Dewalt DWP849x to work with. I just want to get my paint thickness tested first to see where I'm at. Meguiars 105 dusts up fast, I have better luck with Menz 400fg, but I do have both. I'll see how it goes on a test panel. I would love to find a 12-15 mustang panel to work with but so far i'm having no luck finding any decent panel. I have my junk yard and a few body shops on the lookout for any 15 ford panel. I need to get the test panel checked for paint thickness as well.
I'm not looking to eliminate the orange peel, just knock it down some.

That's what I have in mind as well.

When paint is measured, isn't it measuring the total thickness and not just the clear?

You guys will be fine with a simple cut with a DA. Unless you cut the paint every week for a year you'll be fine. Make sure your DA isn't heating up the paint as that will cause the most damage, however DA's don't normally have that issue unless you leave it on an single area for a long time.
