You mean you don't grab the ebrake, break the rear end loose, throw it sideways, then give it as much gas as possible when you have no traction?
It's best to get a dash cam before doing these things to make cool video for M6G

I do believe we will need a crowd of victims -- er... spectators -- before doing this, also.

On the tighter twistier roads of Europe I would get the manual.

Everyone has their reasons for their choice of motor, options, color, wheels etc. So manual vs auto is no different:shrug:

But I just can't understand why I would want an auto tranny with this car. Hauling thru the gears just feels so right. Stomping on the gas without shifting your own gears just has no connection with the car:doh:

And besides all that, you can get much nicer shift knobs for the MT

Long story story short. My 15 V6 M/T got t-boned yesterday morning (thank god I'm ok) and mostly likely will be totaled. So I've been provided with 16 V6 A/T Convertible as a rental and let me tell you... That car has no soul. I had my thoughts on getting auto but it changed my mind really quick. It's just plain boring. I feel like I'm not connected with the car and it just do what it wants (a specially on sport mode. I hated it). And if you can shift you can get great numbers on 1/4 miles ( see V6 leaderboard).

I've had both (see sig). On what I understand European twisty roads to be like I would agree with manual. You should get the performance pack and be done with that part of your decision. It's more fun in the twisties - I can personally verify having driven both.

Having lived in Europe for two years and driving on the roads in towns, the Autobahn and in the mountains. I would advise getting the manual transmission. My reasons are: 1 control on the twisty roads, nothing beats the ability to match engine speed and gearing instantly up or down as you need it. 2. Longevity, while the auto with warranty will give you great reliability the tendency for drivers in Europe to flog the crap out of their cars means that sooner or later you will need to work on it. I daresay you will find someone to work on a manual easier than finding a qualified auto trans tech. 3. Europeans don't generally trade cars in every 2-3 years, they have longer financing periods (or they did) and they keep their cars far longer than Americans. So again the simplicity of servicing a manual is a plus. Enjoy.

It's really personal preference.

I've been driving for over 50 years. Manuals of all kinds and automatics. My latest vehicle was an auto. I found that I was losing touch with what I was doing. I love to drive, and I wasn't driving so much as guiding the car. It got to the point that I was actually bored. In fact, I began to feel I was a bit dangerous because I wasn't really paying attention to what I was doing - I was on automatic, so to speak.

So I got the manual. And I am back to being totally connected with my car. I absolutely love driving my Stang. I'm not worried about beating anybody off the line - I left that need decades ago. I want power, performance, and handling, and I've got that in spades with my car.

If I need to haul the wife and grandkids around, I'll borrow the wifes auto. If I want to DRIVE, I hop in my manual Mustang GT!

Hey everyone, I'm about to finalize my order on a V8 coupe. Last question is auto or manual. Let me explain a bit why:

I've had manual cars before, but never one so powerful as the V8 Mustang, I drove an ecoboost manual and even that felt lively in the rear and wanted to slide all the time. My sole concern is safety. Seems to me that I need both hands on the wheel all the time with this car, and having to change gears might cause me to loose control of the car. Is my concern an exaggeration?

I've had fast, tail happy cars before but not with a manual. What do you guys think? I would prefer a manual, and while I do consider myself a fairly good driver, I'm not a professional. The automatic has paddle shifters with which I'm comfortable, but I haven't driven one as my dealer doesn't have one available at this time. TO those of you who've driven both how do you feel about the automatic? Is it a good one? Does it change gear quickly, or is it laggy like other run of the mill autos? Does it compare with say BMW's 8 speed auto which I found really good and fast shifting?

Thanks for reading.
Should have had a poll....

I didn't give this much thought, but it would be good to know how much an automatic transmission repair would cost. Getting such a repair done here in the States wouldn't be too bad. Anyone priced out an automatic transmission for the MB E350 or BMW M3 or Volvo XC90 ?

The manual transmission is theoretically much cheaper to deal with, particularly over the long haul. The OEM clutch might become an issue with the 5.0, but you have to pay a premium for the Auto, and that same money will buy a high performance aftermarket clutch.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Yes, thankfully you are OK.

I am happy I went with the manual on this car, A LOT more fun.. But, with that being said, you have to be able to multiple things at once, Steering Wheel, Gas, Brake, Clutch .. Stereo.. lol :D
