There is better paint. Not to mention human paint is massively thicker than robot paint. I might take the deal IF I could have the car painted a custom color I wanted, stripes, etc. if I paid the difference. I'm sure Ford wouldn't go for that. Plus they probably want a dealer to do it, and the odds a Ford dealer does the best paint in the vicinity is slim.
Yea, they can apply it thicker, but it will not be as resilient. Not to mention you need to wait up to a month to let the paint gas out before you can wax or put any protectants on it. That means it's more likely to end up scratched within that time period.

In my experience, and that of many others, aftermarket paint scratches and chips easier than the factory one. That's why most professionals at good body shops will tell you to live with a small imperfection rather than try to repaint the panel or do a partial blend.

Update to my issue:

I heard back from the dealer. I am authorized by Ford for a complete repaint of my car, removing every panel to do so. Every edge/panel of my car has this paint defect, per the body shop.

The dealer had already tried to initiate a claim for me with Ford Customer Relations about a swap or buyback but were denied, I had to call to do it myself.

The dealer advised me pretty much right away that I wouldn't want this re-painted torn apart car. I am waiting on a call back from the local FMC rep who is handling this from here, but my service advisor/people at the dealership seem pretty confident Ford will do this swap for me.

Ford Customer Relations has escalated my issue and I am told I'll hear about next steps by Monday.
Hopefully your buyback /swap gets approved.

I know this is an older post, but I had my car repainted by Ford due to thin paint on the doors and the clear allowed for water spot etching all over the car. The dealer did take the car completely apar and cost them over $8k to do the job correctly. The dealer that did the work did do a top notch job, however, the paint started to peel on the hood, so they bought the car back.

One thing you have going for you is the time it'll take for them to repaint. You will qualify for buyback options by the time you get it back so if the paint isn't how you want it, request a buyback and you'll qualify. Ford has no issue with a buyback when paint is involved, but you need to qualify for your state's lemon law first.

Here was mine. I miss it and I know it was sold somewhere in Texas, so hopefully the new owner appreciates the custom paint job that Ford did for me at no cost!!

Glad you got made right in the end. I also have been too, tho I am still waiting for the replacement to be built and arrive.

I see my old car has been sold at a dealer. Posting my VIN here in case the new owner every discovers the paint issue, maybe you'll find it. Good luck and god speed.
