I would it the Borla resonator...(well that's what I did)....

I'm running headers with free flow cats, the Borla resonator and it's still pretty quiet, and no rasp...

The resonator is a straight swap for the Xpipe

Sound bite is at the end of the video

If you like a deeper tone, you can't go wrong with the AWE touring. Deep sound, great V8 tone, no drone.

Tim the one thing I was thinking of you for, is that you noticed that there is more interior noise than your previous catback, despite having no drone. I haven't heard anything else that's quite literally silent on the highway.

It mellows out after time. It's such a drastic difference from stock. They just need to break in. Usually takes a few hundred miles. They are loud but certainly not obnoxious and no drone.
thanks.. I have heard that too....I drove it to Chicago and back (360 miles) and no change.. I am having my peformance shop guy test drive it tomorrow night to see what he thinks.. I had my daughter drive it last night and she said it was noticeable.. she is a music major and compared it to a cetain type of drum beat.. any throttle and you can hear the beat constantly.....maybe I just need to put more miles on it?

Corsa will fix your interior volume issue. Much, much quieter than the Borla inside.
thanks.. I have looked at the corsa.. but wanted the deeper muscle car rumble vs the more exotic note.. I have 1.2k invested in the borla.. I guess I could sell it and take a loss.. but really don't want to do that and start over...

I have this same issue, but I have the touring catback. it's loud in the cabin. Way louder than I expected.

And it drones at 2k unfortunately.

I've talked to Borla about the drone at 2k RPM, and they've been pretty good to deal with. I won't get into everything, but their customer service has been top notch.

That being said, I've even tried to replace the Borla resonator with the stock resonator, and the interior cabin volume is basically the same. The mufflers are just always audible on the Borla system. So right now I'm running it as an axle back to see if I could reduce the interior volume, but even as an axle back, it's still too loud in the cabin for me.

I can roll the windows down, and it's the same volume. Weird...
yeah, that is strange.... I am going to try some sound dampening in the trunk area near the mufflers just to see if it takes the edge off... some say it works great, others say its a waste of time... I figure if it even reduces some road noise and quiets things a little its worth it....I'm also surprised that the touring is loud.. it's supposed to be similar to stock except at WOT..

There shouldn't be any resonance in the cabin. Double check all the hangers on the exhaust to make sure they are not touching anything but rubber. Also make sure your tips are sticking past the valence on all sides.

I have the s-types on mine, but with an h-pipe. After about 1,000 miles, they have mellowed down a little.
thanks, did you have the cabin noise issue? was it related to the hangers?

I'm thinking the AWE would be louder than the Borla though wouldn't it?

Yes very similar volume to your S-type axleback section if you got their touring axleback. Their catback would definitely be louder.

You could try the resonator and see. It'll cut volume down quite a bit and maintain the tone pretty well, although less crackles and pops.

If you are worried about cabin noise get the Corsa Sports. They are almost stock quiet when cruising and when not being hard on the gas.

I definitely don't want louder than the Borla touring catback, or s type axle back, which is basically what I'm running right now.

thanks... for the input!
At this point I have decided on the following:
1. I am going to have my peformance shop guy test drive with me to get a base line.. they are a custom fab place and can do just about anything..
2. Most likely going to try the dynamat in trunk.. it will not hurt anything and may reduce road and wheel noise...
3. I purchased the Borla Resonator from Summit Racing and it will arrive this week... for a couple hundred bucks it's worth it to give it a go and at least see what the difference is.... I am not going to install it right away.. just going to have it available if the sound dampening or other options don't work.. I have a 90 day return policy if I decide not to install it....but wanted it available..
As I told my Performance shop guy.. I don't have unrealistic expectations of cabin noise. I knew that when I got rid of the stock setup it was going to be louder.. I am not looking for cadillac or Tesla type quiet in a mustang.. I just don't want a headache after a 6 hour cross country drive... maybe the resonator will do the trick.. I do love the pops, gurgles...and overall sound of this setup and it is top quality materials.. just want to take that edge off... Any additional input is more than welcome and will pass along to my shop guy so we can put a plan together. I will also have him check the mount brackets, but I think they are fine....

thanks... If i cannot get this resolved to my satisfaction Corsa may be my next route.... I see that there is a market for the borlas and plenty being sold used on the classifieds... but as I mentioned I would prefer not to have to switch and lose $.....
