Hello fellas, as the title said I'm thinking in trade in my 2012 Evo x (475 whp) for a new 2015 5.0. However i have some questions hope you guys can help me. First of all i've read that the manual transmission have had some issues, how real is this? Are the problems in the 2015 models? Is the automatic transmission a best choice? One of the major reasons that lead me get rid of the evo is the crappy interior quality (rattles are ridiculous in this car anew every single day) for what i see the interior on this 2015 model is pretty good, any problems with rattles or something else so far for you new owners? Also the stock engine and transmission seems to handle 600 to 700 whp with no problems ( i drive scared every day my evo thinking my 2.0 liters can blown at every moment car make to many weird sounds and i am right on the limit that my stock engine can handle) i want a bigger engine capable of more power and that give piece of mind and no worries . Im really in love with this new body style looks amazing , i mean i allready sold with this car , just this couples question that are cruising my mind hope you guys can help me and thanks in advance

Haha, there is a bunch of former WRX / STI & EVO guys here. Welcome to the club. Issues cropping up with the manual are noisey T/O bearings. But GT guys have to go Manual for the PP.

I really more interested in roll race and some drag fun, i think overall 5.0 is a better platform for a roll race

just do it. you will have no regrets. issues are minor and definitely not major like potentially blowing up our engines in our little 4 banger WRX/STI/EVO engines pushing 100+ HP per cylinder. (i went from a 349awhp 2011 WRX to my GT).

The manual is fine. Definitely not the best I've driven, but is good. Getting into 3rd is can be a little rough sometimes when the tranny is still cold.

Hoping that the mgw shifter will take care of this. It truly is a thing of beauty.

I guess it depends what you do with it. I think it's definitely nicer on the inside, probably similar power 'feel' overall but the AWD+DCT blows the GT+PP out of the water for stop light runs. Besides that I think it is a superior driving car, except perhaps in the sense that it 'feels' bigger (and is a bit bigger, I guess).
A stock GT will run 10-12 mph faster in the 1/4 than a stock evo X. It's lighter but no way a stock 291hp/300tq evo has the similar power ''feel'' of a gt:crazy:. Evo would be more comparable to an ecoboost stang from a power/tq standpoint. I agree it has the advantage in the launch and in turns.

OP's EVO has 475whp; it would take a lot for the GT to be faster than and EVO with that much power. My EVO had 500whp and with a good launch I was running high 10s.

Yes I got that. In my statement I said stock vs stock. The poster I responded to I assumed was saying a stock evo feeling like a stock gt.
A 475 AWH evo would feel a lot stronger than even a bolt on 5.0 of course.

The manual transmission is garbage.
Automatic is a 1/4 miles juggernaut, I am sure it will fair well in roll races.

If you want comfort, pick up a 5.0.
If you are looking for speed, sleeve your evo and bump up the boost.

I have a 2012 manual, 2015 auto, and an 04 sti being built goals are 700+ awhp. I wouldn't feel comfortable pushing 650rwhp out of a non sleeved 5.0.

I vote you build your evo.

Yeah car run pretty hard. I've beat some full bolt ons + cams corvettes. BUT the damn car is pretty unconfortable is to damn stiff plastic rattle drive crazy . I gues im getting old manual transmission + hard clutch im loosing my love for the sticks im craving for a auto trans.plus im pretty sure my stock engine is about to give up and good motor build is gona be around 10000 bucks and then pray cuz you now engine builds are not always smooth. I mean i like my evo but im at that point where you prefer to use your work car on the weekends ,that means something is wrong right?

Sounds like you are ready for the move. Go auto, you will have no regrets.
I cant get over my sti though, it was way more fun at a little over 300 awhp than my 5.0's ever were.

No RAGRETS, huh? Not even a single letter?

Up until October I had a 415 WHP WRX/STI, and let me tell you OP... MAKE THE SWITCH. I got tired of the buzzing exhaust (had EL headers and had an open wastegate). I got tired of the stiff ride, ridiculous plastic interior, high strung motor, and oh the freaking transmission. I don't know why they make STIs 6 speeds; 1st and 2nd gear are really the same, and while cruising in 6th gear at high way speeds the motor holds at just about 3000 RPMs.

Oh, and then there was the park bench in my rear view mirror. It was like a heads up display in the back of my car that would put cops and other JDM guys in the crosshairs. Not to mention it always made me think that someone was in my blind spot.

Not sure what work needs to be put into an EVO for going above 400 WHP, but I had to put forged pistions in my EJ257, because those things go through ringlands like my toddler goes through Huggies. It ain't pretty and it's freaking expensive. $5K to safely give a car just above the same kind of WHP that can be had with a stock Mustang. Oh, and lets not forget that off the show room floor, an EVO, an STI, and a Mustang GT cost the same.

OP, with an EVO I'm sure you have dealt with many of these things and more, because from what I understand STIs are considered a bit softer and more plush than EVOs. I can only guess at some of the creature comforts you sacrificed for that machine.

I thought I would never do it, but I jumped over to the American V8 darkside, and let me tell you, The Empire is fucking sweet.
