Watched a presser. Said they will bring CAFE back to reality. Hope they go after emissions and CARB too.

Hello; I share your hopes. Many of us have pretty much figured these agencies which set things such a CARB & CAFE are working from some agenda not based on common sense.
Prime example of CAFE standards on sedans which over decades first pushed folks into car-like trucks & SUV's. One irony being the truck based family SUV's & four door pickups are now & have been much worse in terms of MPG's than an equivalent sedan.
Side note for those who may not have lived thru this debacle. When the first few CAFE standards were applied to sedans the authorities reasonably exempted what were at the time work truck type pickups which had minimum comfort features. Car companies were forced to drastically shave weight and/or reduce performance of sedans to get to the required CAFE standards. Sedans got smaller and pitiful. I happened to like small cars but many folks did not. Fast forward to the last few decades and think of all the behemoth SUV's we see on the road.

CARB is another too stringent standard applied to modern ICE. Compared to when i started driving ICE are very clean. That fact does not cut much ice for the anti-fossil fuel agenda. The upcoming CARB standards are set to an unrealistic level. The agenda is to push manufacturers away from ICE more, in my opinion, than set a reasonable emissions standard. There is a falseness to this. It is no longer a secret the stricter CARB standards are meant to punish any company which does not switch over to all EV or at least hybrids. Part of the falseness are the claims that EV's are far cleaner than ICE.

WAY overdue. I’m hopeful Lee Zelden can apply some much needed common sense reforms to the EPA and for the love of God, get CARB under control. 🙏

ICYMI: Administrator Lee Zeldin Announces EPA Found Billions of Dollars Parked at an Outside Financial Institution by Biden Administration | US EPA
Hello; Hope the above passes muster. Seemed important enough to me relative to this forum. After all this is an ICE Mustang site. While we generally have understood for a long time that agencies such as the EPA have been against the vehicles we like, the true depths of there activities were hidden. Now we begin to see more and more. There is a mighty effort now trying to pry the lid off of these hidden activities. Agency and other forces are resisting those lids coming off.
The essence of the above link is the agency parked 20 billion in a bank. Apparently with the hope the taxpayer funds can continue the fight against ICE and preventing the new bosses at EPA from being able to stop the spending.
I do not know if these funds can be clawed back. So far all we know is the attempt was made. My take has to be this will not be the only such thing done by what I consider other "deep state" agencies.

I did some reading up on the $20B Green Bank initiative. Attached are links where the money was spent.

Legislatively, the $20B was initially given to the EPA as part of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). That money was then cut into two programs: 1) $6 billion to the Clean Communities Investment Accelerator (CCIA) program, 2) $14 billion to the National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) program.

Funded, those two programs then began dispensing the monies in the form of grants to multiple institutions. In a sense, the EPA green bank "spent", "gifted", "granted", (use the term you feel most appropriate), to fund these regional and local offices, to improve environment-related conditions.

Can the money be returned? It depends on how it was ultimately appropriated. If given as a series of transfers in FY 2022, probably not. But the IRA was a 10-year initiative. If the $20B was to be doled out in tranches over the next ten years, then yes, Congress could cancel the bank and the remainder of those payments could be stopped.

Can any of the spent funds be clawed back? Can people be pursued on charges of Fraud, Waste and Abuse? I'd think the first step would be for federal agencies to conduct forensic accounting within the EPA and later of each of these charities.

The money was given to the EPA under the GOV appropriations process. It was dispensed in the form of grants using existing GOV mechanisms available to any federal agency. Forensic accounting and studying of granting process should bring more details to light and support federal, state or local charges.

This is exactly what Musk and DOGE are attempting to do. Lots of push back. Makes one wonder if there are/were sizable kick backs.

I'm always amazed at the number of people who become millionaires on 174K year salaries.

Hello; This is very much on track. I expect a mighty pushback and personal attacks on this. By massive I mean even more than has already started. There is an old saw relating opposition to whose OX is being gored. If this DOGE works a lot of oxen will be dead.
A thing, to me, is this fraud, abuse, waste and whatever else it can be called does not result in money evaporating into thin air. Someone somewhere winds up with it. Folks on all sides of the political and business spectrum have been getting these monies. They will notice the gravy train being stopped and rebel accordingly.
Kickbacks and all manner of similar ploys must have been going on. Deferred paybacks to those who leave government positions in the form of cushy jobs, super sweetheart deals on houses, paintings bought for half a million and more come to mind.

This will be brutal in terms of pushback. Lives could be lost. I do hope no one is assonated. If this DOGE is not forced to a halt by the opposition so much will see sunlight. Even if the opposing powers do stall or stop DOGE we already have plenty to see. Perhaps keep track of who protests the most.
