Nope sounds like a buzz or rattle. Mostly noticeable when the engine is cold and light to moderate throttle. Mine happens between 1800 and 2800rpm. I started hearing mine over 4 years ago after I put an intake on my car. It's still there 80k miles later. A lot of people speculate it's the DI pump causing it but i don't think anyone has confirmed it. Just another loud characteristic of the coyote I guess.

Oh ok, i was wondering.. Yeah man, sounds like chain rattle, almost diesel like.. I was like wtf now!?!??!!? I very rarely drive in Quiet mode, but yesterday morning had to leave for work super early and really got to hear it w windows down. It was prominent!!!!! It def only happened when COLD, once it warmed up it was gone. I have the BBQ tick as well, but always add 2 bottles of ceratec every oil change and that issue is gone. Now this.....
I dont think its DI pump, i've had other fords w DI and know that noise. This is diff... This is a rattle-flutter not a tick. Anyways, good to know and hear you have 80k miles and no issues. Its def reassurance, appreciate your reply.
Do you think i should bring to dealer for a documented trip???

Thanks Anthony

I think this is the TivcT rattle of the cam timing gears. It takes a while for the oil to get up to the top and they are a little noisy. Coyote's been doing this since 2011.

Thanks for reply. Can this cause an engine failure? My set up is blown, so i am forced to run 5W50 via Roush spec's.. You would think that would be thick enough oil to calm any noises down.

Actually I have 84k miles on it but the first time i noticed the noise was around 5k miles. 🤣 I personally wouldn't go to the dealership but that's mostly due to my hatred for them and their ridiculous wait times out here. Last time I tried to go for warranty work i was quoted 2-3 weeks after I dropped it off before they could look at it. I fixed it myself.

Nope. Its the cam phasers just rattling as they move the cams position. There was a TSB for this back in 2012 where Ford reflashed the PCM to change how they work at cold so they are not as noisy.

oh snap!! no kidding..... via TSB. I wonder if they can reflash my PCm and correct it? or this is something i have to live with and avoid heavy throttle during warm up process...
