So I just installed a K&N oiled air filter on my 18 gt last night. Took it to work today and noticed while I’m idling in neutral the RPMs would drop and rise drop and rise. Only happens in neutral once I put it in gear (while still at idle) it idles normal. Also when I go in reverse it drops even more RPMs and I’ve stalled a few times. More frightening on my way home on the highway I did a little pull on the on ramp to about 85-90 then when I pushed the clutch in the car stalled going about 80 (luckily I was able to start up again). So I just got home and put the stock air filter back in and it idles perfect. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Thanks !

Weird. I would've said maybe you fudged up the MAF, maybe didn't seat all the connections/etc., during the install, but it's curious swapping filters back fixed it (unless you undid the previous mistake[?]).

I'd try installing it again, make sure it's properly seated all the way around, any connections are tight, no air leaks, all electronics tightly connected, etc. (the filter can be a little tricky getting it to seat perfectly in the airbox).

Thanks, will do! If that doesn’t work prob just return it and try the afe dry filter

Yeah, that's what I'm using, I was always concerned with oiled filters I'd under/over oil it after a cleaning, this one is great, wash it, let it dry, done.

I ran a K & N for 2 years with zero issues like described here. It sure sounds like a vacuum leak or air leak of some sort.

I’m thinking I was sent the wrong filter. I looked at the oem and k&n and the k&n is much thinner on the edges. Also when the k&n is in the air box has a little play in it, moves around a bit, when the oem filter is in its snug and no movement.

could be just the top lid not installed and your vacuum leak or idle issues is just that. can't hurt to look and make sure it's sealed. i have one now for almost a year with no issues....
