So I skimmed through the other thread - sorry for the double post. But one thing, somewhat off topic but not completely - in the first couple pages people were asserting that engine braking wears out expensive parts...

That's just foolishness.

If you rev match - and don't shift to an improper gear or lug etc, engine braking does no more wear to the opposite side of the same tooth than acceleration does.

Any correspondence to hot or cold days? I have noticed occasionally that on a hot day the timing might shift on heavier throttle openings (my assumption is it's fending off detonation) and I notice a significant change to the exhaust note.

I don't think so, or it hasn't had any relevance to me. It's happened on days when it's 8-10C* and when it's 25C* :shrug:

No remarkable difference in temps from my first mile to now.

Yep [MENTION=24324]J_Maher_AMG[/MENTION] I definitely experienced this exact same issue. What I've been having to do lately is just blip hard and THEN downshift (literally one after the other instead of simultaneously). Otherwise, you'll get that small half-assed blip that doesn't go anywhere, very annoying.
