Agreed on that. Probably best to keep those discussions to the off-topic forum. I don't know anybody who owns a gun, and it's shocking to me to always see these people who can't go get a glass of water without bringing an arsenal with them.

Wait. Someone asks what's in everyone's trunk, someone says "my gun" and he gets knocked for gun coming up? If you don't wanna know if he has a gun in his trunk, don't visit a thread talking about what's in the trunk. Besides, a defense weapon is a pretty big part of many peoples emergency kits.

I don't get you people who don't even know people with guns. We hang them in our back windows here in our cars at work, and go straight to the camp after work. It baffles me how many people don't have them, yet the first thing that happens when you get in trouble is you call a guy with a gun and hope he gets there in time.

But that's off topic. Anyway, if you don't wanna know, don't ask or visit threads that ask. Not everywhere is as weird as New York.

In my emergency kit includes two first aid kits, one small and one large. A swamp rat ratmandu knife, a fire starting kit, laminated copies of my drivers license and concealed carry permit, insurance cards and work id. A laminated map of the area I live, a compass, dry socks, a good rain suit and a 10x10 folded up sheet of plastic. Also a backpack. Oh, and a glock 19 with spare mag. The needs to hike home from my normal places if I need to basically. It all fits in the tire well with the mobility kit. Not all in the bag. Used to just keep in trunk but I like having the empty trunk look. Edit: forgot, about 100 ft of para cord.

first item I put in the car is a tire plug set. I would rather plug it, air up and go then change a tire. Local i only carry my donut for spare, long trip the front tires from my extra set goes into the trunk.

I'm thinking of doing that, taking a cross-country drive this summer to the west coast and back. I'll probably throw one of my winter tires in the trunk just in case.

That would be fun. I've always wanted to ring the country. Drive the edges all the way around.

Driving the edges all the way around would be pretty sweet... don't think I'll have the time for that, though, with work commitments. Current plan is to leave New York City on a Friday morning, hit San Diego by Monday night, and be back in New York City by Saturday night, with one day to recover before work the next day. Want to take a slightly longer route back going through Colorado, because I've never seen the Rocky Mountains except to fly over them.

Holy crap that's an aggressive schedule. Doesn't sound like a fun trip but a necessity trip.

My ride around the edges will be an after retirement deal in about 17-18 years.

See, I like driving long distances because I can just shut off my brain. I normally go to Miami every summer and do the NYC - Miami drive in one shot, about 22 hours straight driving. And that drive, there and back, is always my favorite part of the trip. Just put the cruise control on and go. My job has me concentrating and mentally focusing and stressed out so much, it's nice to be able to just unplug my brain and think about absolutely nothing but watching the landscape disappear.

Obviously I can't do 22 hour drives for a week straight, but 12 hours a day in the car is totally fine. Have it mapped out so I'm never going more than 740 miles in any given day, with shorter days mixed in.

Careful Jimmy. You're liable to meet all kinds of folks who own a gun...and I'm willing to bet everyone of them will be the nicest people you meet.

I'm not lying or joking; that's actually my number one concern about the cross-country drive, is getting shot by some random stranger in some gun-owning state who'd kill me for being a New Yorker.

But, again, this is pretty off-topic for this part of the forum; probably best left to the off-topic area, or PM if you wish.

That would be a crazy person, and they can be found in any state.

My trunk is empty but I should probably keep at least a small kit with me. Yes I do keep a gun with me (I am in TX afterall), but it stays with me not in the trunk.

That there is funny, I don't care who you are.
Actually, your most likely problem will have to do with eating too much fast food or giving in to the lure of "truck stop ho's".

Everybody I know gives out of stater's a friendly wave to keep them in a better mood. It's the ones who decide they like the area enough to move in that get the other finger.
As long as you make it clear you are just passing thru, everything should be fine.

Since I ordered the 20" wheel option I don't get a spare. Can anyone with a spare post a pic of the jack and lug wrench? I want to know what fits in the wheel well. Thanks in advance.
