I just went in to trade my Ecoboost for a GT convertible.

2015 PP, premium package - saddle interior, DIB exterior..

MSRP was around 34K
I paid 28K + taxes & tags

18 months later, they are offering 19 - 19500K for my trade in (at 17,000 miles) :frusty:

All cars depreciate roughly 33% the minute you drive them off the lot, so it's not surprising what your trade-in value is, given the mileage--also, trade-in values vary from region-to-region.

I feel your pain. My payoff is still in the mid-30's!

If it wasn't for my unreasonable fear of buying a car that someone didn't maintain properly or treat well, I'd only buy used cars and laugh at the people who accept this kind of depreciation. Alas... I like to buy new cars and have more issues with them to fix than any used car I've ever owned... still. Duhfuq is wrong with me?

Not ALL cars but the majority, yes.

The mustang GT's I've traded in have held their value surprisingly well.

OP, try other dealers. What they offer can vary greatly. I have seen as much as a $4k difference between different dealers.

Does not apply to MANY cars, including average vehicles like Forester and 4Runner.

The only blanket statement that isn't total crap is one stating blanket statements are crap

I've heard this complaint a lot about the EB. Looks like if you do plan on buying, you better keep it for quite a bit.

How true!

There are two Ford dealers equal distance from my house. I had bought my wife's car and my Focus ST at the dealer nearest to my wife's work. When I decided to buy a Mustang I wanted to do business with the other one because they are a Ford Performance and Roush dealer.

Anyway, they offered me $12k for my ST on trade for a new Ecoboost Mustang after much discussion they came up to $13k. At that point I was figuring I was going to be driving the ST for my typical 7 to 10 years.

I decided to go back to the dealer I had bought the ST at. There first offer was $15.8k after some discussion they came up to $16.5k, I wanted $17k but was willing to accept $16k so the deal was done.

Both dealers were selling me the Mustang on X-PLAN plus rebates but the dealer I bought from had sent me a $500 customer loyalty coupon and traded with another dealer 350 away to get me exactly the car I wanted. I wound up with a better trade, a better price on the car and didn't have to wait on a factory order.

Definitely shop several dealers.

 What he said :clap2:

You need to shop around. I have a Ford dealer 5 minutes from my house, crappy sales but great service. I have tried to buy four vehicles from them. They do not budge. There's a great dealer 35 minutes away that is more realistic with their pricing. I get a great deal there every time.

Baltimore is close to you. Might want to try them. No personal experience but many on this site have done well there.

Don't trade in. Sell it privately to an individual or to CarMax, Vroom, or Beepi. You will get much better value. I was offered 21,000 for my 16 Ecoboost with 5,500 miles on it (payed 24k new).

Same exact thing for my GT PP. Both had to trade to get the car I wanted, one offered my 14k for my ST, the other offered me 17k and ended up paying 17,300 for it.

Just a noob talking, but could it be due to so many ecoboost being traded in. I know a guy who has an eco thats trading for a gt and is loosing his ass so far. This forum is full of people who traded eco to gt. Just a thought.

Why would you think that Ecoboosts are being traded in at any higher of a rate than any other Mustang? You certainly can't judge the overall market based on what is going on in this forum. This forum represents a tiny percentage of the population of folks buying S550 Mustangs and is almost entirely made up of enthusiasts. There are many many more happy and satisfied Ecoboost owners than there are those trading for GTs.

For every 1 S550 GT I see on the road I will see 10 or more Ecoboost/v6 S550s.

I would say the low balling on trade in offers is just what dealers try to get away with.
