Does new model release equal price drop/depreciation on previous models?

I'll be buying a used S550 sometime after June 15th. I'd love to be able to find a 2015 GT w/ PP in Magnetic with less than 10k for around $28K...however, for some reason the Magnetics with PP seem to fetch 1-2 grand more than other colors...no clue why...

I've read in a few spots that the 17 will be available for order some time in May. Now whether or not that's true, I'm curious if prices on previous model years drop with any predictability right around the time that the new models come out?

If so, I'd imagine that generational changes, say from 14 to 15, would have yielded a pretty significant drop when proportionately compared to a 15 to 16 release.

Again, curious if new models means instant price drop (for shoppers) or depreciation (for owners)?

Thanks

I would say yes if there are desireable changes or improvements. Who wants the old when you can get the new. And new prices are pretty aggressive. I am finding no luck finding anything used worthwhile except ecoboost, and I don't want that motor. V6 and GT are holding value better. It must be rental fleets selling cause the ecoboost is popular.

The 17 is likely going to be very similar to 15/16, so I doubt there will be any serious amount of depreciation outside of the standard new car depreciation.

Just went through this with the insurance company, I was in an accident on 12/16/15 that totaled my car (not my fault).

Unfortunately, the adjuster didn't get out to look at my car at the body shop until 12/29 (due to the Christmas holidays, and a spate of bad weather around here that caused an inordinate amount of traffic catastrophes), and made the value quote based on a non-PP car. When I haggled with the insurance company over the value, they came back with lower (!) numbers, because in the intervening time, my '15 car (which I bought in August 2015) was now "1 year old" (!) (according to their valuation tools).

I had to get really nasty with them, but in the end, I got about $500-600 more than I paid for the car

Well this is certainly a first!! Near new GT with PP cheaper than a 15 with quadruple the miles!!

http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/655173919/overview/

If I was looking for a race red, I'd probably cash in some of our portfolio just to jump on it ahead of my planned buy date!!

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. But I'm guessing it's either a type or another example of a dealer not knowing the car is worth a little more.

It is a good deal, but really only a base car with the PP package. The car new has an MSRP of $34ish, invoice of $32, so they have to price lower if they plan to sell it.

Certainly not arguing, but can you show any other examples of 15 or 16 GT's with under 10k with lower prices?

I did see one for $28.4 last week..black with two magnetic stripes...that one was for sale for almost a month.

And yes it's a base with the PP...which is exactly what I'll be shopping for.

Thanks! :)

$29,600 for a BRAND NEW car. Tack on destination and dealer charges and rebates and you're in a completely new car for <1k more than buying someone else's mistake.

Holy shit!! This is for a NEW 2016 GT w/PP in Magnetic!!!

I have absolutely NO problem making a 3-4 hour drive for this. Hell, my wife's family lives down that way...make a weekend of it!!

Is this place like a mega-dealer or something? Seems like a massive chain of dealerships. Only one I've seen with these prices. They are asking less for a new one than I've seen used!

Thanks for sharing that! Certainly sets the bar much higher for my local dealer if he wants the business.

Yeah, used is a suckers deal these days on a lot of cars. It has to be CHEAP. LAst 2 cars I bought used and they were cheap. Now I'm back to new cause I don't like to pay 70% of new price for 50% of prime life left.

Yes, They price Mustangs like this to try to promote business in other areas like trade-ins, buying other non-Mustang cars from them, etc. The guys at the Baltimore dealership have been really helpful with me so far.

Just curious...but what do you mean by "prime life"? I'm hoping this car will run for between 100k and 200k.... and previously I was looking for one that had under 10k on it.

Thanks

I talked to one of their internet people. Found out that they have a Lexus place in Delaware and can transport the car up there from one of their Virginia/Maryland dealerships... so long as it's free... that's awesome and will turn a 4hr drive into a 1.5hr drive.

I have to talk to their dealers next week to find out about all these discounts they talk about on their site combined with the $500 rebate from ford and then a .09% interest loan on a 36 month.

They only have one 2015 and it's not PP or Magnetic. However... NO interest loan on it!

Given all their rebates and discounts...I'm wondering what room it leaves for negotiation? ...especially since they seem to like to pile on a $400 transfer fee along with others...

My goal would be to get this car for under $30k out the door...including taxes paid in PA, registration, the loan, etc...is that realistic for a new 16 GT?

Thoughts??

Thanks!!

I'd say there's not really any room for negotiation, they already deal cars well below invoice.

That's kinda what I figured. Still, gotta find out what discounts I'm eligible for...they have one for college grads...I finished grad school 9 years ago...maybe that'll count. :D

Without any discounts it'll be around $31 out the door once I pay taxes in PA. More than I wanted to spend but for a brand new GT... seriously tempting!

We'll see what happens when I talk to them.

Thanks
