So today I went out to do a little drifting and snow donuts in my EcoBoost and for some reason after about 45 seconds of sliding around (no redlining or bouncing off the rev limiter at all), the car started burning oil pretty clearly with it coming out of the exhaust. The car didn't feel weird at all but I chilled out, let the car idle for a minute and then turned it off. When I turned it back on everything seemed fine. Didn't smell any oil and car seems to drive fine the whole time. No lights on the dash, etc. Anybody have any ideas? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Edit: The consensus so far from a knowledgeable Ford guy and another guy that tunes other EBs say they think it's just fuel and the mixture getting richer as the cats heat up.

So long as it isn't super black or bright blue, you are good man.

Had a similar problem today. I had the car in idle just parked with the ac on and I started seeing white smoke coming from the exhaust, at the beginning is was just a little then more and more, so I turned off the car. When I turned it back on and drove away I felt like I was in one of those turbo diesel trucks I hit the gas and a cloud of white smoke was left behind. All the temps were normal and the car didn't have any problems or felt weird. Also I'm stock. Just want to know if this is normal? I know turbo cars burn oil but I'm scared now with the fires going around lol

How thick was the smoke? That sounds worse than mine. Has it continued to do it since?

Hi Leo,

It's always best to be certain. Have you spoken to your dealer yet about the issue? PM any further details, along with your VIN, name, phone number, mileage, and dealer info. I'll check out the situation. :)

It wasn't that thick but it was a lot man... i have never seen so much smoke before supposedly I read that sometimes the car runs rich in fuel and since the catalytic it's so hot it does that. Nevertheless Im gonna send Jeff a msg with my info and probably end up taking it to the dealer.

Hi Jeff, My 2015 EB Mustang also occasionally leaves a cloud of white smoke leaving from a stop after aggressive driving. Very strong smell of gas. Seems extremely hot. Car is not modified in any way. After cooling down all seems fine during normal driving but the car is burning oil. Mileage is about 5,500. 3 oil changes with new Ford oil filters using Redline oil since new. Taking it to dealer (Marina Ford) in Culver City CA in the next couple of days.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seems that a lot of EcoBoost owners are reporting this issue.

Have you checked your oil level? White smoke is typically fuel, oil will typically be blue smoke.

I ve had my 16 EB for 2 months now and 2600 miles. I have checked the the oil level and see that its 1/3 rd down the full mark. Looks likes its burning some oil which is weird. Should check it up with the dealer during my 1st oil change at 3500 miles

It's normal for new engines to burn some oil during engine break in. Once the engine is broken in and the rings are fully seated, the oil consumption should decrease significantly.
