ECM/PCM

Wanted to see your guys’s input on what I should do with my ecm/pcm. I’m rebuilding a salvage 18’ gt and the ecm/pcm was smacked but yet the car fires up with ease. Long story short car throws like 30 codes and saw the ecm/pcm is damaged(bent pins, cracked circuit board, etc.). Ford quoted me 600$+ for the new ecm/pcm plus 110$ for programming. Does anyone know if I can buy a used ecm/pcm(250$) and get that programmed by Ford? Or if there’s anywhere that can fix my ecm/pcm?

Just pay Ford the money. When it comes to electrical items( ecm, starter, alternator) always buy new. You will save yourself major headaches down the road over used.

The newer PCMs (any vehicle MFR) has the VIN embedded in it as well as As Built information.

Ford IDS has the capabilities of being able to modify not only As Built info but also VIN revisions IF a PCM has to be absolutely replaced because of XYZ...

I don’t think any such deep revisions can be accomplished with Forscan - BUT there are some really knowledgeable folks on here who are Forscan Pros and would be best suited to chime in.

Mileage is another factor - can be changed using Forscan but only to increase the mileage with gauge cluster replacements.

The other codes you are getting, most may be related to the accident, especially if any airbags deployed.

I can’t find it at the moment, but there are a few threads in here for other members who have bought salvaged GTs and had multi own codes due to the accident damage. In those threads there was some info on how they were able to methodically go through the PCM codes and retire them via fixes to components or how they were able to clear them after certain fixes.

I appreciate your response. Thank you for chiming in and giving me some more knowledge on the subject. I was hoping I could save a little bit of money with buying a used pcm and having Ford program it for me but right now it seems like taking the vehicle to ford might just be the best option. My greatest fear is spending all of that money/time and the pcm isn’t the issue. More than likely with 30 codes popping up I’m fairly certain it is the pcm.
