I’m thinking about switching to E85 on my edelbrock I’ll be doing a fore fuel system. My question is I read that pump e85 isn’t always true 85% so how does the computer handle say E70 % from the pump since the flex fuel cal is not turned on and it’s just automatically advancing for e85?

thanks on any explanations

It won’t. If you don’t continuous access to E85, verified by testing, you will need your tune to reflect the Ethanol content you do have. I don’t know what the maximum timing difference is between E85 and say E70 but my tune on my car was for 22 degrees on E85 and 17 degrees on 93 so somewhere between those two I would imagine.
That being said, on my Audi RS3 there is no power difference between E60 and E85 as the maximum timing is the same.

No change in knock resistance, your fuel trims will take care of the stoich change.

Always a good idea to test your local pumps regularly e70 is an a problem it’s when it reads much lower that is...

You should have the tuner set it up for the blend that you're confident you can achieve.

By law, E85 can vary between 51% and 85% ethanol and still be within standards and measures.

You should test every time as fuel tanks are refilled quite often and fuel stations buy what's available at the time from distributors.

So to be safe I could have it set for 51% and it would be good just still test

If you fill it with 51% and have the tuner tune it to that, you almost don't need to test at all, but you're leaving torque and power on the table and it might run a bit lean on the short trims because most of the time you'll be filling with 60-85%, which has less chemical energy but also has less propensity for detonation and preignition.

Try to tune it for E70 and then you have the on board adjustment for a bit either way.

And I wouldn't even fill up if it's 50%, I'd just fine another station. I haven't found anything that low, and haven't even seen anyone post a reading that low, but it's possible/legal.

Generally when guys find a very high quality (85) or poor quality (like 60) they post photos for everyone. Get on a FB group locally and guys usually post up their testing results.

The gas station i used tested to E-90 Every time i went there. That was when i was on my n/a build. Now i have boost and that one and only gas station in my area is closed for good. Next nearest gas station for E85 in my area 40 miles away. Tuners now do flex fuel tunes for boost so if the percentage vary time to time those tunes should adjust accordingly..

I know for a fact Lund does not do flex tunes for boosted applications. Not sure about any of the other well known remote tuners. Reason being our cars don't have a flex fuel sensor. The PCM uses the front o2 sensors to infer alcohol percentage, which is not as accurate.

When did they start offering flex tunes for boost? This is the first I have heard that they started offering this. This goes for any of them Lund, PBD, AED etc.

I wish E85 was readily available in MA.
Too bad.

You might want to take a look at our Stage 1 and 2 Division-X fuel systems. They are E85 compatible, they are made of quality CNC cut components and run off of relays compared to a controller. We sell them here at www.lethalperformance.com. Send me a message if you have any questions or would like to place an order on one.
