I have DSS Drive shaft and half shafts,

Since installing the drive shaft, when I'm just touching gas driving normally I hear a slight whine (might be wrong) sounds like coming from dead center of car where drive shaft is.

Is this normal with DSS Aluminum drive shaft or should I be looking out for something? It not bad, I just try to keep my car perfect, so figured I'd ask experience on this.

The aluminum driveshaft can have an increased effect on NVH. Your shift mount and poly tranny mount will ultimately help transmit this additional noise into the cabin.

So you think its nothing to worry about right? I mean its not horrible sounding like end of the world, just a whirrrr sound. Growing up my parents drove me around in an old van (I'd guess 70's) with no back seats, I use to lay on the floor and hear the same sound. So I don't think its a "bad" sound but just wanted to ask opinions if I should look out for anything.

Thanks

I just noticed you are a convertible too. You will definitely get some more NVH with your combination. Nothing wrong with your car, just the characteristic of your combo.

Word of caution...if you ever decide to use a poly/delrin inserts from Steeda or BMR in your dif mount, prepare to hear the roar.;)

I just installed mine on Saturday, and notice a little more noise. The DSS shaft has no rubber guibo joint at the front flange like the stock 2 piece does. My noise seems to be coming from the differential (Torsen) and traveling up the driveshaft, which is now has only 1 tube instead of 2 and no rubber isolation. Sounds like it's coming from right under the rear of the console. Pretty sure it's coming from the diff... the pitch of the whine is dependent on the speed of the car, not which gear it's in.

Am I worried about it? Nope. As long as the level doesn't increase. Torsens are noisier than a clutch type diff anyway. Guibo joint is gone too. Here in Atlanta, ozone levels are ALWAYS high. Rubber stuff doesn't like ozone - makes it dry rot faster. Try a Google image search for guibo joint, and you'll see some "less than perfect" pics.

Best of Luck!
That is all...

Would a carbon fiber DS transmit this noise up the shaft as well?
Not as much, as carbon fiber has a bit of an elastic effect and is non metallic. The "elastic effect" is great if you're a drag racer. I thought about it before the aluminum purchase. But I picked up a deal on the DSS at Lethal, and the $$$ I saved versus the carbon fiber will buy me an MGW shifter. I've been using aluminum driveshafts on Fords for a number of years... with no complaints. DSS, DynoTech, and Spicer. I don't think Ford has EVER made a really good driveshaft from the factory. :D

Your mileage may vary... void where prohibited by law.
That is all...
