I noticed that there is no thread where we talk about the different driving techniques.
one thing im interested in learning is how to heel / toe and when this would be used.
also if im on the throttle and shift from 1st to 2nd fast and go WOT as soon as I shift, the rear end breaks loose in a big way. its cool and all but not as fun as gripping right away and shooting off like a rocket. any tips?

Heel/toe is typically used while cornering, so you can brake but keep the RPMs high to launch quicker out of the turn.

You just either need to not go WOT or get better tires to grip while you shift. That's basically it.

A heel-toe downshift is performed during hard braking maneuvers by combining braking and rev-matching in one motion. Its main function is to keep the car's balance and driven wheels stable as you shift into a lower, appropriate gear as you prepare to get back on the throttle for the upcoming turn/exit in a corner.

It can be done one of two ways. The traditional and literal "heel-toe" technique involves getting on the brake pedal with the ball/toe of your foot while pivoting your ankle/heel over to the gas pedal. A throttle blip is applied for each downshift while the clutch is disengaged to momentarily spike the revs matching the upcoming gear engagement.

An alternative method is to use the left portion of the ball of you foot on the edge of the brake pedal while rolling the right portion into the gas pedal. Works best when the pedals are closely spaced together and high up where it would be physically difficult or impossible to use the traditional method.

Treat your throttle like an analog device. The car makes as much power as you want it to up to WOT figures. In order to rid yourself of that 1-2 break in traction, practice rolling into the throttle quickly instead of outright matting it. Just short of stomping on the pedal.

TLDR; ver. Heel and Toe technique allows for rev-matched down shifts while braking.

Roll on the throttle to avoid wheel spins.

thanks. Ive owned MT before but I had about 170HP at the crank. so I had no chance of breaking traction ever. there is definitely a learning curve here.
ive been dying to get this thing on a track and see what it handles like, but the wife says no. gotta convince her its gonna keep us safer while im driving :)

Yeah. You know how it is...some women are hard to win over and get into the car scene. My wife hates fast cars and thinks it's a waste of time. She's getting better then she used to be. But if she says don't do it, I best listen.

my car is my wife, it doesn't talk back but will knock you out and bust my wallet if not careful

As the owner of a recently sold '14 base 6sp, I can tell you it broke loose too. I know it was my fault as I was dumping 390 lb/ft to the wheels with a smile. With my S550, I have noticed with all of that wheel hop, it just cannot make use of that torque. Your best bet is one of two ways: the steeda anti-wheel hop kit I believe goes for just under $150, or FRPP's rear subframe stiffening kit. I haven't seen the price on that but I know it will cost a few coin. It was on Ford's GT that went 11's as well as a few other minor modifications.

I've debated which route I was going to go, but if the FRPP is not too expensive, I'd like to keep as many Ford parts in it as possible.

My technique is; Right hand on top of wheel, left hand on gear stick. When I go its pretty much gunning it from 1st to 2nd to 4th and then 5th.

Right hand on top of the wheel and left arm on window sill, or left index finger on 9:00 wheel spoke and right arm on center console arm rest. Tuck my left leg so my knee is against the door and my foot is against the center console, rest my right heel on the floorboard, pivot my right toe against the gas pedal. Always do the "pretend there's an egg between your shoe and the gas pedal" thing so all throttle inputs are gentle and linear.
