My thoughts exactly, The first time it happened with my 3.5 F150 I thought something was wrong, dealer said its normal, new tech......lol! On a twin turbo motor it's just effing stupid. I immediately disabled that feature permanently.
Agreed autostart on a turbo car is just asking for trouble...

I really wish car companies would stop copying the Germans... German cars arent all that great to own...

Its like they all have some sort of inferiority complex and have to imitate them... Now even Toyota is making BMW design their cars...

We get miles long "grain trains" here about once a week. So, if you see a train coming with 3 engine units, you might as well turn the car off and relax for awhile.

So was siting waiting at a train line so I shut my engine off. After about 20 mins or so I fired it up the IATs had jumped to over 40 degrees above ambient.........To deal with the heat build up I'm thinking to pop the hood to vent the heat if its safe to do so. Or on the highway crank the A/C or heater up prior to shutting off the engine, this should trigger the secondary fan to come on or in the case of the heater lets the coolant flow more and dissipate some more heat into the cabin......
Well......if you're sitting at a train line (??), for a long time, sure shut the engine off. The IATs mean nothing, it's no problem for the car. There's no need to pop the hood, turn on the AC, or any such non-sense. Just shut the car off to not waste the gas sitting there idling.

Cars haven't over-heated since the 1980s, this isn't a problem anymore. There's nothing to worry about, other than wasting gas.

Its still, a bad habit to do that with a turbo car. You will destroy your cartridge doing that. Especially if you're running ball bearing turbos...
Turbo engines haven't had such issues like you're concerned about for a long time. Modern turbo systems are both oil and water cooled, there's no problem with them coking their bearings, not for a loooooong time.

You're then applying decades old concerns on turbo motors, to your new naturally aspirated vehicle.

Relax brother. You're worrying over absolutely nothing. No problems, no worries, it's all good.

The auto-off setting defaults to 30 minutes but can be disabled in the settings. You would want to keep the auto off set for remote start in case you accidentally start it and don't know it. This is two different settings.

LOL@Ford owners talking down about BMW quality. That's some funny stuff right there. Yet, every single thread eventually goes the bash BMW route. Not sure why, because these cars are not even in the same league when it comes to ownership experience, etc.

I get it is a Mustang forum, but the blinders are thick on here.

As far as the original question, I leave my car running in traffic no problem. My stupid F-150 had the stop-start feature and I disabled it every time I got in the truck. Instead of cheap gimmicks like that, it would be nice to have some genuine engineering improvements.
