I've been thinking about trading my automatic in for a manual.
My previous sports car is manual and I really miss driving a manual.

Actually no. The 3.55's would cause a shift into 4th before crossing the traps dropping you out of your powerband.

Heck with your logic we should all just jam in some 4.56's right? Because those would be faster. :eyebulge:
With your logic, why not go with 2 something gears and stay in second gear through the traps :eyebulge:

I have done so in the past (missed manual and traded auto for one) and regretted it. My daily 70 mile commute has a tons of traffic and hardly any turns; where constantly rowing gears gets old and auto makes sense. That is my situation though. Best of both worlds is to have both...I ended up getting a 15 GTI for a weekend manual fun car which I kind-of regret (GTI overall reliability questionable and stock clutch POS) and may trade for a Fiesta ST or new Miata soon.

If I could only have one it would be auto.

No need to be a smart ass about it but yes. If you were strictly worried about 1/4 mile racing, you would want higher gear ratio. You'd want to plan it out so your top gear that isn't overdrive (for us that is 4th gear with a ratio of 1.14) would be near redline going through the traps. Redline normally but since our EB isn't making power there, you'd have to plan it out in the power band.

I was trying to over simplify it as I said, no need for the jerk comebacks...

Well lets' see, my best was 11.2 with 3.15's.

How fast have you been?
My new GT will never see the track and will stay stock as it is only intended to daily commute with. In a stock daily driver, the 3.55 feel stronger and more satisfying in-gear than the 3.15's, and that is what I care about personally during my daily commute, not really which is faster.
If you consider the 6R80 gearing and do the math, the 3.55 still has a little more gear in 4th than the 3.15 does in 3rd. The shift into 4th does not put completely take you out of the powerband, just lower in it.

How fast I've been really doesn't matter...but if you must know, I've gone much faster on my stock Hayabusa (only lowered)than a 11.2. but I guess that is neither here nor there, lol.

That's funny. Take you constant pissy comments over to the Challenger forum.

I traded in my GT for a Scat Pack. Best decision I ever made. As heavy as the Scat is it just comes to life compared to the GT when you mash the gas.

Perfect! he can put some 3.06 gears in it and have a real winner!

I like my manual GT. Not sure I would buy again, at this point. If that 10 speed auto comes out like everyone is saying, I'd probably go on over to auto side. I like the manual transmission, but it's already iffy when it comes to racing.

If I'm on my game, and don't f*ck up a shift, yeah... I can hang with the automatics. Maybe I win, maybe I lose, maybe this person has different gears, or whatever... but it's very much a drivers' race, regardless. The differences are small.

When that 10-speed auto comes out, it's probably the end of the stickshift cars remaining competitive at all. Final victory of the automatics. For the Camaros, there was what... a four-tenths spread between the 6-speed manual and the 8-speed auto? Probably would be higher for a Mustang with a 10-speed auto. Not a drivers' race anymore.

But for today, with the 6-speed auto and 6-speed manual... stick all day long. If the difference in times is small, I go with the one that's more fun.

Sorry, no again.
The op clearly has a stock Mustang and is talking about how the car feels while driving. The question put forth was what his gearing was and the point made was that the same car with 3.55 gearing would feel to have more grunt than the identical car with 3.15 gears. Your argument that your car can go X in the quarter mile does not translate to proof that all cars with 3.15 gears are faster than cars with 3.55 gears.
Also your personal ET has no bearing on the ops point and therefore is flagged as a red herring.
Finally since evidence appears to show you no longer own a Mustang and have traded it for a Dodge you are flagged as a troll.

I like my auto especially with the Lund tune.

I keep it D most of the time and have even gone to a couple open track events. The auto worked great.

Finally figured it out guys (how to hold the gears until you want to shift). Put it on S on the shifter and then into S or S+ on the menu. Totally changes the car into almost a manual feel without the actual shifter of course. May not be faster that way, but sure feels like it!

In response to someone stating a stock car 3.55s feel noticeably faster:

I drove both and found the 3.15's felt faster. Which they are.;)
Then to prove your point then post this link:

It is pointed out that 3.55s are top three cars on the stock list, you then come up with these irrelevant (to the discussion at hand) gems:

And the modified list is dominated by 3.15's. And the majority of us don't keep our cars stock.
Well lets' see, my best was 11.2 with 3.15's.

I don't see why it is so hard to fathom that during the course of a 'normal' day of driving around town, 3.55s are likely going to feel faster.

Even if the 3.15 cars dominated the stock 1/4 mile list, this would not change the fact that (all else being equal) a shorter gear is going to feel more spirited when puttering around (and one is not worried about what gear they are crossing the 1/4 in) - which is to the OPs point/issue.

↑↑↑ wait 'til you go to stomp on that imaginary clutch pedal for an upshift coming off an entrance ramp in the rain and catch that real brake pedal instead . . . might be all the excitement you'll need for the rest of that day. Never mind how I might know this or how long it's been.
