Hey guys, so I recently discovered an exhaust leak from the clamp that connects the driver side header/cat to the mid pipe and I can’t resolve the problem. I tried tightening it and moving it with no luck. Any idea what I can do to fix it.

I can't tell for sure, clamp looks rounded. Could indicate, the 2 ends of the pipes have what looks like a flair. Between the two will be what is called an exhaust donut, they can leak, replace it.

The clamp does not link like the ban type.

There’s also a tab welded to the clamp. You can see it on the backside of the clamp.

Then I would think loosen the clamp pull the tail pipe out and away some, think you'll find one of these . They are common, NAPA would be a good place to look. Take it with you.?

I Just screened shot this from another mustang and it appears that it doesn’t have a donut ring ect just the clamp.

Interesting, is this a stock system, you mention headers and some times adjustments or parts added might be involved.

This a new set up or started leaking after some run time?

Just my thinking, the two flares would need to be pretty well fitted in order to not leak.

Tubing usually has a slip joint and a ban type clamp. A flare like this looks, I think needs a gasket between the joints.

Having two flares butted, metal to metal would possibly need to have the edges surface ground to butt against. For a tight seal do not see that a being practical for an exhaust header to tail pipe application .

So best guess if you can determine from where it is leaking, top, bottom, side. The try to move the tail pipe some to get a seal.

If it were I, and would do try it myself to be clear, a donut could be added it would seal better. Kind of a mickey joint the way that's made, the agin not an engineer LOL

I check back later

I recently had my engine replaced via dealership and noticed this a couple of weeks later. I’m just trying to see if I can fix it myself before taking it back to the dealer. I have a cat back but this section is factory.

Then I say let them finish what they started, I totally understand the hesitation . You can always make the case it's a hazard, exhaust leaks up under the cockpit is not good. I take it you are hearing it inside?

What cat backs ? Looking at the Roush, however I must see them, get a measurement on the tips.

They are smaller than the ones on the car. I'll change the Roush tips NP, just need to figure out what it will take.

Good luck be sure to come back when its fixed. The post was a good brain exercise... LMAO

cheers,
Greg

My 2019 has a different clamp than that, so Ford obviously changed something. If you don't want to take it back (I wouldn't), just use exhaust paste and it should seal any leaks. And torque it only to factory specs. Good luck.

I've had my transmission out 3 times. Every time I replace that short piece of pipe as it seems to be a one time use. I was not able to get that to reseal after many different attempts and tricks I knew. The pipe is pretty cheap from Ford and it worked every time with the new pipe.
