Hey guys - I just wanted to start a discussion on drifting an S550 and see if anyone has done it. We at Mustang Lifestyle for one love to kill tires but also drift. Scott went out to a drift event back in June with his EcoBoost and has also drifted his 15 GT.

So my question is would you drift your car?

They make a form of "drifting" that doesn't eat tires...

On dirt. Real "drifting".

...or oversteer as most people know it.

Edit to add:

I did experience drift once in a early 90's F150. The bearings were shot in the steering box and you had to turn the wheel a full revolution before the wheels would react. If you tried to go straight that pickup would drift all over the pavement. The only way to get anywhere was to induce a right lane change and then constantly correct back into the lane.

I wouldn't call that drifting really. More like just spinning out wildly in a large parking lot.

I would probably attempt to improve the rear cradle (suspension) a bit first. Sloppy IRS not conducive with controlled slides.

Eh, Kinda over it. One of my friends from college was Dan Pina, driver of the original Drift Patrol Mustang. It was cool for a time and don't mind seeing it in small doses but it just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Full disclosure; I don't mind drifting my car on the skidpad but a lot of the track days that I do are geared to not drift. Doing this on the street is just idiotic too.

Maybe when it's wet. Tires are expensive.
If you are talking about track day drifting, I would get a beater RWD car like a S14 or something because you are gonna end up in the dirt a lot and maybe hit something.

As soon as someone is taking care of the tire bills I'm in.

I have drifted my car once, un-intentionally, around a curving ramp, around another car, big concrete barriers a few feet away. Did it about 3 years ago in my 2012 BPP GT.

I'm sure my butthole will relax one day.

Anytime it rains I do donuts, pretzels and long slides.. heh.. The P Zero Nero's are awful for performance driving but great for sliding.. :D
