90 tempo.
I agree with that. And it will ensure they hold a car for you and not sell it out from under you.

Yep.
We've never had any issues with downpayments and ordering vehicles.
The main reason we ask for a downpayment is just to see how serious the buyer is about the deal.
Some dealers can be jerks about it, but overall I think most dealers know how to handle every situation differently and not have a strict solid policy.

Most Non refundable Deposits are scare tactics... The dealer has to buy these cars and sell them.. You order a car, back out, and they can't sell well they're up the creek. I have no problem giving up or even losing $500 on a deposit, but even I find $1000 to be outrageous for something such as a GT... Maybe a gt350 or LE model... but definitely not a GT

i don't mind putting down a deposit for that matter. the thing i mind is i need the deposit to be refundable because with all these panel fitment issues or if anything happens to the car etc. i don't want to take delivery on a 40K car and have issues and then lose $1000 on top of that.

I put $500 down. If I had pushed the issue they may have taken less because it didn't seem like they had a set price.

This is no different than places like Best Buy charging you a restocking fee (15%) for special order that you no longer want or return shortly after purchase.
FYI

best buy hasn't charged return/restocking fees in years. (I worked there during college).

I put $1,000 down on my first order, and $500 down on my second. Supposedly I'm getting the $1,000 back after I cancelled, but I'll believe that when I see it.

They definitely did on laptops. Source: I sold computers at Best Buy.
