They are bottom feeding middlemen. Jerry Lundegaard, from the movie Fargo, epitomizes almost every car "salesman" I have ever met....I also imagine it's hard to be a car salesman with demanding customers, the undecided, the tire kickers, and the "be backs" (those who say they'll be back to make the purchase but never come back.)
Personally, I don't think you should be allowed to sell any product unless you pass a basic knowledge test.
