I broke a tail light. $846 plus $50 core charge. a few years ago a new complete head for a '03 cobra was less.

Ouch, that would translate to about $1100cad. How the heck did you manage to break it ?

Deets. "Garage door" could mean many things...

Also, do you think having a 2116, about 99 years before the MY, had anything to do with the price of your taillight?

The tails retail directly from Ford anywhere from $899-$1k per side - do NOT pay retail!

These can be sourced on eBay, near new used or salvaged for $399-$499, depending on condition and seller location. Be very careful buying these online from ANY Seller - if via eBay, make sure you review ALL pics CLOSELY for ANY damages such as scuffs on lenses, scuffs or scratches on the polished black surfaces and functionality! Any tails on ebay that are below $300, they are most likely damaged in one form or another.

SHOP AROUND for the best deal, they're out there! These can also be sourced via LKQ Online (https://www.lkqcorp.com/en-us/) or via www.car-part.com

The red lens where it is sharply angled, cracks very easily if it was hit hard by force or blunt impact. The same is true with the polished black surround, more so the outer edges - that area also cracks or chips very easily. So when looking at online pics, be sure to really examine those areas. Ask Sellers for high res or close up pics of any suspect areas of the light.

Most sellers will not guarantee such parts because of the electronic circuits or boards within the light assembly. So this is why I am stressing to really make sure the overall condition is meeting your standards.

Note that there are slight variances between a 2015 and 2016 tail light:
1) Early 2015 (late 2014 date code), on back side it will have a white paper label with time, date, Ford part number AND a standard bar code. (Pic 1 below)

2) Late 2015 (early 2016 date code) and all 2016: on back side the white paper label also contains the time, date, Ford part number BUT it has a QR code instead of a standard bar code. (Pic 2 below)

3) Early 2015 (late 2014 date code): The rear black ABS housing will have a large smooth section on it with no stamped numbers.

4) Late 2015 (early 2016 date code) and all 2016-17: The rear black ABS housing will have the following part number stamped into it: "VPG: GR3B-13B505-A" or "VPG: GR3B-13B505-B".
The suffix "A" or "B" denotes a right or left side assembly. This linked thread I had posted pics of the back of a 2016 tail housing for the above references: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61043&page=4&highlight=Light

All years:
A) The harness that protrudes through the back of the assembly has a white label attached to it - this label is also date/time stamped with a Ford part number.
B) A blue dot decal (size of a dime) is affixed to flat surface on back of housings.
C) Small rectangular white or blue Vendor "lot" stickers affixed to back of housing in sporadic locations.

--

The reason I mention the above:
IF by chance your vehicle needs to go in for warranty work - matched is better than mismatched, no need to go into any additional explanation.

Hate to be the one that tells you, but..... You have used tail lights on your car right now.

Sorry you had an issue with your tail light.

I will say that the very last place I would buy an OEM part is directly from a local dealer. They assume you are not educated on the real cost of parts online and think they have you over a barrel. Always check eBay first. There are many dealers who sell OEM parts with deep discounts on eBay.

At one point weren't GT 350R wheels listing for over a 1000 dollars? I got one for my previous 16 GT for 375 shipped from a large Ford parts dealer via eBay.
