No whine in idle for me. Loudest when pressing on, like most of the other posters reported in that thread.
It's there to let manual drivers know you have the auto and give them time to select some gear or other that might match the auto (some hope!)
I am not sure what cars you have driven before but none of the ones I have driven previously has sounded similar to this, except for my friends car with a dogbox setup.Vehicle transmissions make noise? Really?
Next you'll tell me blinker fluid isn't something I need to be checking.
Mine has this sound. Its how Ford got the extra 25HP for the 2018 modelHi
From day one I have whisteling sound coming from either the transmission or the diff.
Is this common or will my car explode soon?

Hundreds....I am not sure what cars you have driven before but none of the ones I have driven previously has sounded similar to this, except for my friends car with a dogbox setup.
Mine don’t thump like that .I'll take the whine over the thunk the MT-82 made putting it into first at a light.
It's not the MT-82 - Mustangs with the Tremec box do the same thing. And the cars prior to 2015 with MT-82s and a SRA didn't make the sound. I think the noise comes from the IRS or driveshaft.I'll take the whine over the thunk the MT-82 made putting it into first at a light.
Mine does it as well, I thought maybe it was the electronic steering? :shrug:Yes. I noticed this when I was pulling out of my garage this morning and thought I noticed it a few other times.
Before you be so quick to judge, maybe you should understand the particular noise in question. If you aren't, please hold your comment and say nothing at all. The 2018's I've driven make a literal supercharger-esk gear whine noise at idle in gear. I didn't notice it while driving though.Vehicle transmissions make noise? Really?

The thud? Uh, yeas, the S197 MT-82's do make that noise. The S550's 2015-2017 also make the same thud noise. The 2018 I drove did not make this noise, or the noise was reduced and I didn't notice it. The thud noise, IMO, was worse in the S197, though, because the SRA and all the stackup/windup in the drivetrain. It's not the MT-82 - Mustangs with the Tremec box do the same thing. Agreed, I have to admit I was wondering what the frig is doing that, but I like it! :headbonk:I posted about this too a few days after I got my car. It sounds vaguely turbo DV like.
I'm wondering if they actually engineered the sound to be heard like that. It's actually a pleasant sound.
