I believe i have synch 3 in my 2020 Explorer XLT and It definitely has apple car play.
Anyone else have these two fighting to be in control? I was using the map app on iphone (plugged into USB port). Seems like it randomly loses the connection and reverts to the navigation map on infotainment screen. I have to unplug iphone to get it back on iphone app screen.
This has happened a lot. I thought this was supposed to be plug n play simple.
Hope the 21 GT does not experience this same issue. Is there a trick to connecting....like plug in iphone before turning on car or truck? I assumed it could be plugged in any time. I don't usually use wireless as it does not have all the features of being connected via usb.
The voice command for naviagtion map must think I'm speaking russian! It makes me yell at the stupid screen because it can't undersatnd what I'm saying! Then it definitely goes off on a tangent for some bizarre address.

All Sync 3 systems have had CarPlay since mid 2016.

Change your cable. Many of these issues are caused by a funky cable. Also try a Master Reset on your Sync 3 and a cold reboot on your iPhone.

Well can't help you much here. It's not Russian, it's New Jorsey. No wonder it doesn't understand you. :cwl: :like:

Thanks everyone. Now I can focus my search on the ones with 8" screen/Sync3, but they are hard to come by. Looks like most of them from Carmax/Carvana are the base model with the smaller screen. S650 is coming out next year, right? Hope, by that time, a lot of S550 owners would trade in their cars for S650, making more S550 available in the used car market.
Incase you weren't aware, you can upgrade the 4" screen to the 8" Sync 3 system fairly easily. There are a number of threads how to do that

I wasn’t aware of that. Let me look it up.
Is the upgrade functionally identical to the factory 8” option?
Thanks

You have to use OEM hardware

You indicated that you were looking for a car with the 101A package. If the only reason for this is the Sync 3 then you can skip the 101A add do the upgrade as @br_an mentioned. If not, skip the hassle and just get the 101A.

So after searching for sometime in this crazy used car market, I finally got myself a 2018 ecoboost premium. Everything is great except that, ironically, CarPlay is not working.
I connect my phone thru USB cable and it can see my phone but it never gets to the actual CarPlay screen.
I try connecting my phone thru Bluetooth. It can play music and stuff but it doesn't want to remember my phone. Every time I restart the car, I have to re-pair my phone with the car.
I try doing a master reset. That doesn't resolve the issue. I believe master reset is supposed to erase all the connected devices from the system, but the old phone list from the previous owner is still there.
I am going to do a Sync 3 software update to see if that could fix the issue.
Has anyone had similar issue with Sync 3?
Thanks.

What version of Sync 3 do you have? Early 18's had 3.0. They changed midyear to 3.1 that is now 3.4. Version 3.0 cannot be upgraded to 3.4 via Ford. You would need to use a 3rd party like Cyanlabs.
