Wondering if there is any pics of the S550 with both side front and rear window down , this would look horn! Surely the convertible's window goes down but how about the fastback?

I'm guessing no. I'd settle for a venting action like an RX-8 or E46 3-Series coupe.

Maybe a pop-open venting like on the Mustang II. Seems a rather out dated design but possible. Remember they said the convertible was a whole different animal under the skin compared to the fastback. I'm sure there are lots of little things they had to change to go topless.

It would look cool, like Merc does it's coupes. I wouldn't think it would be that hard considering the vert will have roll down back windows.

So much structural rigidity is lost in the absence of the B-Pillar like in the Mercedes down above. I would not be pleased if that was what we got instead instead of the glass overlaying it.

The closest car Mercedes has to the Mustang is the C-Coupe which only has front roll down windows. The E-Coupe can roll all windows down but they also have much larger rear windows. With the Mustang's windows being a little smaller I don't think it's too necessary for them to roll down. It is cool however when they all roll down, makes the car feel bigger and more spacious.

I'm guessing, assuming if they were to use whatever additional bracing is used in the 'vert, a pillarless coupe could have sufficient structural rigidity.

But it won't happen :(

It would never look that clean as the mercedes since it has the B pillar. It would add too much weight (and cost) to build the roof structure strong enough without the pillar. In the end it's a matter of aesthetics versus improved performance and safety.

I do beleive the 71-73 fastbacks with power window option allowed the rolled down quarter windows but the non powered ones did not. That's part of the reason they put on so much weight. Now with the integrated quarter window I'm sure someone will work up a mod to get those windows to roll down somehow. It might mean rolling it down manually as i've seen other conversions on the manual wind down 71-73's. But again, won't look as clean.

But if it used the same bracing as the 'vert, it wouldn't need the B pillar.

That being said, with climate control, there no need to open the windows at all :D

No thanks. Then it would be as heavy and piggish as the convertible. I want less weight, not more. Plus as Thed pointed out, structural rigidity goes down the tubes. Again, no thanks. Keep the bloat to the 'verts and rental cars and let the racers keep the properly engineered coupe.
