The adaptive learning reminds me of the drink machines in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
Yes! MY 23 GT/CS will do that too. If it's cold and I shift into drive (just to nurse it out of garage to warm up) it seems like I'm in neutral. I think that you've gotta wait for the transmission fluid to circulate and build a little pressure before shifting it into drive when starting cold. It's definitely an odd sensation but goes away very quickly.

That's sort of what my truck does when cold. Reverse and first are OK, but the 1-2 shift takes an eternity and acts it's like it's in neutral during the shift.

That’s because it’s skipping 2rd. Stock in normal mode it’s set to skip 2nd.

Correct, now that I think of it the thing goes 1-3 in that mode. Anyway, same effect, it's like there's no gear.
