heres my opinion on the police - citizen relationship.
Police do not know every single code and or law. a lot of them think they do and if they dont then they play it off like they do. Police are unique in the fact that they are in a postion of power over ordinary citizens. One thing i learned as a leader in the Marines is that you have to ask the harder questions and listen to what someone has to say before going off on your power trip.
it was wrong for the cop to threaten and say do what i say because ill throw you in jail if you dont.
yes you have the right to know what your being accused of before you "comply" with what your accuser is telling you to do.
remember respect gets respect. you simply cannot demand it otherwise the people around you will make your life difficult.

Here in Illinois if you are stopped the office every well can ask for your driver liscense first . The law doesn't not specify that I tell you why I pulled you the very first line out of my mouth . But with that said I find it easier to just tell you why your stopped then ask why ya did it and then decide if I want your information .
My opening is

I'm officer blah blah from blah blah
How are you ?
Reason I stopped you is

And then if your compliment and a decent person and respectful and was a minor offense I usally say have a nice day and drive safe . Now if your a dick I'm guna be a dick and I have lots of practice lol

I just get a little sore as of late when cops are bashed our job is hard enough as is

My and all of your guys taxes pay the police to protect and serve, not to treat me like a criminal from the get go. Remember, no matter how much you dont like it, that the american people, the citezens, the taxpayers, we are all your boss. You take an oath to protect and serve us. Treat us with respect and i will treat you with more respect then 75 percent of the people you pull over. Treat me like an asshole,
And ill treat you like an asshole.
My two cents on the police

1. The lights sucks
2. Why would you have an attitude with the officer?
3. Why would you post it on YouTube for all of us to see you act like a douche?

I appreciate your approach. That would get me to treat you with the uttmost of respect.

I understand your job is hard, and alot of people are total asholes no matter how you approach them. I have family members who are retired cops, and i know its not easy.

That just doesnt give cops like the one who pulled me over to treat someone harshly before they have shown any resistance.

Hats off to you sir!

Indeed. What people forget is that by virtue of his position, the cop should be respected at the get go... regardless of what you think you did or didn't do. Goes back to kids and adults. Respect your elders, they've earned it. Of course they could lose it while interacting with you, but they deserve it initially.

OP, as for how the officer pulled his car up on you, sounds like that was simply a cautionary move to prevent a worst case scenario. Remember, it's late at night and he doesn't know your intent.

Ahh but children dont pay their parent paychecks do they. Respect the citezens you are paid to protect and serve. They have earned it.

Regaurdless, there was no need for that. I didnt show any signs of bad intentions the whole time he was turning around to pull me over.
Thats where he lost my respect.

So what your saying is since I pay myself I can do what ever I want. would you tell that to me during a traffic stop? See when you say stupid things like that I can see the attitude I definitely would have gave you a ticket just to see you in court to drop it lol

You dont solemly pay yourself so no. It is a combination of the taxpayers.
as long as "whatever you want" is not agreed upon by a majority of taxpayers, then no you absolutely may not do whatever you want.
If you can convince everyone though, sure go ahead. Then your being paid to do it.

ha its funny when people tell me that they pay me and I need to answer to them. Only person I answer to happens to be at home and well sometimes my chief to lol When I was a kid 18 years ago people respected cops and would never make demands from one and piss one off. Now everyone is entitled and wants to start arguments it makes me want to let people fend for themselves cops should go on strike lol
