So, the short story to this is, I'm 18 I do not have a huge knowledge of tires and wheel set ups yet. I have almost 5,000 miles on my car and the rear tires have half the tread of the front tires. I think I can get another 3-4 thousand miles out of the rears but what brand and which tires should I change too. This is my daily and I drive on weekends with groups on curvy roads. I would like to not give up on performance, but I need a tire that will last me a solid 15,000 miles if possible. I know you can harp about driving style. When I'm with groups we tend to drive sprinted and during the week I average 20 mpg so I need a in between tire. I am also of thinking of moving to a square setup all the way around so I can rotate. My thought is 19x10 all the way around with a 285 or something, thats where my knowledge fades out. I was thinking of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 (W- or Y-Speed Rated). Its about 320 for a tire but I wondering should I go with a cheaper tire that will not last as long or get these that should last longer?

If you are looking for something that has a longer tread life, I'd suggest taking a look at Nitto's NT555R's. I've had them on my 2007 GT for quite some time and they've worked out well.

They do tend to run a bit narrow though!

Do you need all seasons in GA? If not I'd save for some MPSS tires, they're superb in every way with very little compromise. They even have great traction in freezing temperatures in my experience.

One reason I was looking at all seasons is so I can get longer tread life out of the tire. If tread life was not a concern that would be my first choice for sure.

I am getting a new wheel and tire setup for my '15 GT PP and will be getting the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Best tire out there. They are not cheap but you should get good mileage out of them with a 300 treadwear.

In recently years its not uncommon to see temperature dip into 20s in Atlanta. That's one of the main reason why I picked Pilot AS3 instead. I am sure MPSS will work just fine most of the time, but like you said I prefer a little longer tread life in exchange for handling.

Look for reviews on UHP tires and max performance summer tires. Read up on the tires' Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) to get a basic idea of tread wear expectations, the higher being better in your case. You're typically going to sacrifice outright grip in favor of better wear, so you should focus on finding a tire that provides a good compromise with highly rated subjective criteria.

I tried tires on a budget once and went with General Exclaim UHPs. Completed fucked my car's handling characteristics up and I swore off of going cheap on rubber ever since then. Some tires will claim (and have test results to back it up) high grip and great wear but might have terrible subjective qualities, like odd noises at the limits, poor break-away behavior, or skewed wet/dry abilities.

Very true. Even in the same state I live in. However, that are only about 800 '15 Mustang owners on the these boards vs. 40k cars that have been sold:cheers:. Very small sample set.

I had a 5.0 V8 when I was 18 as well. I paid the car payment and my parents covered my insurance as long as I maintained good grades. Perfect situation for me. I will do the same for my son and daughter as well.

Good advice, Sean.

For comparison. Our stock Pzero's are 220 while the MPSS are 300 and the A/S3's are 500.

PSSs are my go to; best all-rounders in their class even for the money. I'm not as weary of my PZeros as I thought I would be leading up to the delivery, but I'm still kicking them to the curb for some Michelins as soon as that tread is gone.

I chose a different tire. I went with the Nitto Invo. I asked the people in my
club and those at Roebling Road and they all had great things to say about them.
Although I will agree that the MPSS are the cream of the crop for street
performance tires.

God i wish i had your Parents! I had to buy my own car and pay for the insurance when i got my first car.. It was a 87 olds Cutlass with a Chevy 350ci dropped in it,.. Not to shabby i guess. I owned alot of v8's in my time..But As i got older these new Turbo cars are intriguing to me.. IDK especially with the crazy gas prices over the last couple years.. Love the Tuning capability to get alot of power from them but still have lower insurance cost and amazing gas mileage..

But should I replace them both or just the rears to save alittle cash, wait to do a full square setup to rotate, or just say screw it and go for MSS
