Took car in for oil and filter change because dealer gave me a few free ones when I bought the car, and the dealer hands me a list of "Recommended Maintenance Items that include the following:

Engine/Compression Performance Restoration Service - $70
Fuel Induction Service - $170
Transmission Fluid Exchange Service $240
44K Fuel System Cleaner - $32

Is any of this necessary or even really recommended at this point, or is the dealer just looking to make money?

Yup, especially when your car only has 34k miles. When you get "free" stuff from the dealer, they try to get more $$ out of you when you're there.

Yeah, trying to make money. No need for any of that. Maybe tranny fluid, but you can do that yourself for $90 with the good stuff (BG Synchro Shift II).

They even try to make some money when you take a car in for a factory recall.
Service guy tried to tell me the wipers on my wife's SUV should be replaced. The car was 5 months old
and had 2700 miles on it.

I dread taking my car to the dealer. I have a tail light out and I have to go this week to let them do it under warranty while I still have one. I have to take my blown/stroked '05 in for airbag recalls too. I'll be sitting there waiting for that one.

I went in for my “free” oil change a few months back, I signed my car in then peeked thru the glass to see who would be wrenching on my car. After about 3min watching 6 dudes try to get another car on a lift, I kindly asked for my keys due to a family emergency and split.

Going off topic a bit ...

I am almost insulted when the service department tries to sell me wiper blades . I mean who in the f**k can't change out a wiper blade.

I tell them no , I always do my own wiper blades .... usually in the Walmart parking lot in the rain ;)

I recently had an Asst. Service Mgr. forget to tell the tech I had my own oil for change and got Motorcraft blend used for my latest oil change, they didn't have the Ford Racing filter I always ask for either. Big opportunity for "Young tech's" to get their young feet in the door "Nationwide" as an ASE certified tech. Nobody younger than 30 working turning wrenches anywhere I've gone recently???
