10 Years from now, cars will come straight from the factory with built in dash cams, mark my words!!

I'm surprised they don't already, front and rear cameras would be amazing, especially if they record all the time.

are you using the dash cam just to record your driving? or are you using it to see what people are doing when you take it in for service and what not? you can easily unplug that...

Actually I never thought of recording service but I like the service idea. The chance of them disconnecting it is low and even if they do it'll run off battery for a little while. For basic service I highly doubt they'll disconnect it. They might not think of it or even notice it.
Even if they hood is up and the video is blocked I'd be more interested in audio which is fairly clear even outside the car.

The intent for me with the dashcam is general recording of what's going on outside while driving and parked.

I used the kit from BlackVue. It's not product specific and works with virtually any cam. The on/off and shutoff settings are in the glovebox.
