Oh - Cotus.

Was pondering how a car could be on a truck "in transit" for + - 8 days to make a 500 or 600 mile trip.

I think the way cotus works is that "in transit" for example only means that the upstream department (possibly quality control in this case, "awaiting shipment" reads a lot better than "looking for oopsies") has finished their to do list and released the car to the next downstream department. The green bar moves as responsibility for the car travels from one department to the next, in a perfect world it would always move to the right.

Either that or it is all about aliens and stuff.

Yep! I'm obviously very eager to get some miles on it before I drive it through the winter - any recommendations for winter tires for a Ecoboost? I'm looking to buy a set of wheels and tires if the weather is as bad as last year.

If you are going to get WINTER tires, don't get A/S tires. Get the Blizzaks, or something similar.

Seems like cotus is acting up again! After being in transit for 4 days and a edd of 11-14 now there is no edd and back to awaiting shipment! Lol!! Better be a fluke!

Strangely, this very thing has happened to many of us. For me, it lasted about 15 hours. Deep breath! It'll be over soon, LOL.

I think someone posted that tracking the convoy portion is not possible.

Yes. I've heard same. But just because one says you can't doesn't mean YOU CANT. I'm sure just for security reasons for the truck and drivers they don't want there exact location known.

While it's true the trucks have GPS locators on them, there will be no way for you to track them. The GPS locators are for the company that owns the truck to monitor it's location, both for security and dispatch reasons.
also they are not "convoys". There won't be 10-20 trucks following each other down the highway.
a driver will get dispatched a load, go pick up his load, then make as many stops as he's told to to deliver all the cars on his trailer.
Also there is no way a car sat on a trailer for 8 days or whatever. Even a truck that's limited to 60 mph can drive over 600 miles in one day. Granted if the driver has multiple stops he could lose some time there, but he is allowed 14 hours of on duty time and 11 hours drive time each day. The drivers want to get the cars delivered asap so they can get more, that's how they get paid.

The EDD is actually a range. A start EDD and an end EDD. Cotus shows you the end EDD, so yes, it's conservative. It's generally a 5 day window.

The date's do shift though, they start out as a rough guess, then as it hits production it usually pushes out, then as it finishes, it pulls back in a little. It's quite common for this to happen.

However, once it's in transit it seems to be pretty stable and you will very likely see the car before the EDD cotus reports.

My car is still showing an 11/8 EDD on Cotus, but I was at the dealer when he called Convoy and the dispatcher there said for sure it would be delivered on 11/3. He put him on speaker so I could hear it myself. ;)

I guess due to my broken-down-train adventure, my EDD on COTUS has pushed out from 11/11 to 11/14. I'll hope for the near end of that five-day window!
