My car has front sensors that beep to show the proximity of the curb. I've still scraped the front dam on entering/exiting driveways etc (ex: whole foods parking lot) and it never feels good. Fortunately in the Stang the bottom airdams etc should be cheap and easy to replace (and of course require no painting). Regarding hitting the bumper on a curb or wall - well, we're left on our own here. Initially I was wishing for front sensors and then realized I'd be moaning about weight, price and complexity - so I shut up. LOL!

Now that some cars are delivered, could someone be so kind and measure the clearance of the front bumper to the ground? (preferred a GT/PP, as I plan to buy one)
I plan on lowering mine a bit and would like to know how much is reasonable.
That would be greatly appreciated

This is why I back in to EVERY spot I park in. The rear end sits WAY higher than the nose. Easy. Problem solved. Next?

Ever since my S2000, I just never quite pull all the way up. Gotta be "aware" of how long your nose is though.
Same here. I bought a new 2010 ZR1 and on my way home I stopped at Best Buy for something and put a huge gash in the carbon spliter when parking. Ever since then I don't even bother trying to pull all the way up or I just back my cars in.

Wish it had a front camera for this reason...

I asked about this in the entertainment section. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the rear view camera was I'd love one of those for the front for parking curbs. I had a radar/sonar thing on the front of my 2010 because of the extreme splitter I was running and was thinking of putting one on this car then I thought a camera would be really nice. Especailly if it showed the front view when the gear lever was in first and rear view when in reverse.

Agreed. Specially with the rear back up camera and rear park assist it should be a walk in the park.

OK, you are right about "curb bang".
I posted in this thread, because I thought no need for a new one. OP did ask for clearance also.

I would like to know the clearance in the front especially because of sloped driveways etc.

Thanks a lot to anyone who can provide this info :)

I've had to through six license plate frames in three and a half years because of cracking from hitting cars in front of me parallel parking).
Yeah, I lived in NYC for 10 years; I only had a car there for the last 2 (my parents old '90 5.0 vert). And in those 2 years my bumpers went from pretty decent (for a 20 y/o car) to "mother-of-god, what happened?". Street parking is a free for all and I found most people just accept a certain amount of bumper damage since the spaces are so small and most people bump-park. I also lost a passenger side mirror while parked on the street. I eventually got a garage for parking and even then the driveway and approach was tiny. My dad had a hard time getting his '13 5.0 around and into my garage. The idea of having a brand new car in NYC gives me anxiety.

Living in LA now is heaven to me. Most street parking spots are marked with plenty of room. Lot parking usually has wider spots with the double, rectangular lines separating them. A lot of curbs here are really high though; more than once someone has gotten into the passenger seat while I was parked and their added weight caused the open door to get stuck on the top of the curb.

along these same lines, I remember a while back my uncle had a chevy tahoe (i think) that would adjust the mirrors to point at the rear tire whenever you put it in reverse. Given how useful that was I'm surprised it really hasn't made it very deep into the market except for a few trucks.
I think there's a company that makes a unit that does this, but it's just disappointing it never took off with the OEMs except for tow vehicles.

Whenever I'm not sure of how far up I am, I just look at the car next to me..most of the time, the paint is decent enough for me to see the reflection of my car, and how far away from the curb I am.

Other then that, I pretty much just wing it...Haven't had a problem parking !

Although Charlotte is pretty hilly..driveways/inlets into shopping areas and businesses can be extremely steep ! So much so that I'd have to go extra slow to avoid scraping my front splitter. But my 2011 Is dropped an inch anyways hah.

For anyone interested, I measured Katie's front spoiler/splitter ground clearance at 8.25".

Thanks alot RB510! :clap2:
So one inch drop should be no problem for most driveways I use.

I was worrying about this and speedbumps, and pulling into parking lots that have a bit of a dip at the entry/exit points. If any current owners care to give their feedback that would be great.

I'm looking to tow my GT home if it comes when there's salt on the ground. I plan on keeping the car a very long time and it won't see salt/snow. So is this measurement the lowest part of the underside airdam? Want to make sure it will not scrape on a Uhaul carrier. Thanks!
